" I HATE My Tennis Partner!"

First off, I don't HATE any of my partners. There are many, many of them and they are all lovely people with whom I enjoy playing tennis. I wouldn't play if I wasn't having fun, right?

And you probably don't hate your tennis partner either. But, sometimes, on occasion, maybe every once in awhile, you end up with a partner you're not completely compatible with. I call this the "mismatched partner."

Maybe your mismatched partner is… Continue

US Open Men;s Preview - History in the making

The men's tennis is no more about the Nadals and Federers of the game as the third and the most exciting angle comes in the form of Scot Andy Murray, and with the challenger brigade all set to overthrow the so-called dictators, we analyse the real-time chances of these gladiators at this year's Open.

Playing with men

I showed up an hour early. In my excitement about playing tennis, I misread the announcement and thought that we were meeting at 6pm. In fact, the meet-up was posted for 7pm. The sun was still brutally hot. The public courts were filling up fast. I stood there for a while wondering where everyone was.

Most of the courts were occupied by men. There was a smattering of women. A woman and a young girl who seemed to be her daughter struggled to hit the ball, the mother’s returns going… Continue

Nadal's Year and Future Riding on U.S. Open

No one will deny that Rafael Nadal has had a difficult year thus far.

He won the Australian Open at the start of the season, continuing a magical run through the 2008 season, however that seems like a decade ago now (doesn't it?). Beyond the Australian Open and leading up to the French, Nadal was simply being "Nadal".… Continue

What is that on Nadal's stomach?

I watched Nadal play the semifinal Cincinnati match tonight against Djokovic and he was wearing a skin-colored, wide strip of tape over his stomach. You could see the tape when his shirt flipped up. None of the ESPN commentators knew what it was or knew of any stomach injuries he had. Does anybody know what this is about?

Paradorn Srichaphan: How's the Wrist?

The former top 10 player, Paradorn Srichaphan is apparently still looking to return to tennis after leaving tennis more than 2 years ago due to a wrist injury.

Wildly popular in Asia, the Thai player was a promising player with character and game. A serious wrist injury however stalled Paradorn's career in 2007 and he hasn't played a tournament since.

Most have written him off after he married a former Miss Universe, headed into… Continue

Is Sampras the Brett Favre of tennis?

When Pete Sampras retired in 2002, after spanking Agassi for the umpteenth time, he gave the impression that he was done with tennis. In interviews he indicated that his career was over. He was going to turn into a homebody, taking care of his wife and helping her to pop out some kids. As evidence that he was done for good, his training team packed up and found other jobs, most famously Paul Annacone who found a lead job with the Lawn Tennis Association.

I can’t honestly say that I… Continue

Obsessing about the US Open

Apologies for not writing. I have been in obsessive mode. I’ve spent the last two weeks obsessing about everything to do with the US Open. It’s my annual torment. Although to be honest it also gives me pleasure, so much so that I have concluded that there is a part of me that simply loves to obsess. I must get off on dithering.

First I looked into purchasing a mini-plan. You know, one of those Labor Day weekend deals that include tickets and hotel. The lowest priced I found cost… Continue

Top 10 Greatest comeback matches of the decade - Women

Sportsworld can easily be considered the best source of dramatic entertainment. An entertaining match does not just call for power and technique, but the drama that spellbinds the spectator with the nail-biting tussle. Unlike the drama we seek in other sources of entertainment, there are no pre-decided scripts here, no direction, just pure tenacity and the WILL TO WIN.

The history of tennis has witnessed many such occasions where the expected 'vanquished' has come from the brink of… Continue

Rent a Coach/Player hourly !

I'm a professional instructor of this great sport. I have played tennis for almost 6 years and began teaching children in tennis clubs in Brazil. After this, I started to teach adults and elderly. I stopped teaching tennis since I started to travel the world working as a professional model in Asia (China, Philippines, Hong Kong) and Europe (Italy, Milan). I got married 7 months ago with my beautiful and loving wife Janice, who is originally from Hawaii. My wife and I resolved to live in Pearl… Continue

Switching racquets after 14 years. Goodbye Graphite II, Hello Speedport Black.

OK, I promised to blog about why I am so horrible. I blame my horribleness on the fact that I've just switched racquets for the first time in 14 years.

I had been thinking about a change of racquets for a while, having considered it on and off for the last 4 years or so. Racquets seemed to be looking more different, potentially holding great promise of technologies for improving my game, maybe even making me a better person. Each time, though, I was stopped by what seemed like… Continue

Customisation and Paint Jobs (join my group)

Tried the customised route and it works for me on a head LM radical and i.radical (strung weight 318g) I added an extra grip (15g) and lead top of handle (20g) and lead at 10 & 2 (10g) Total weight 363g, and 8 pts head light. These IMO are the best rackets to customise (the radicals) they are great rackets that need a bit of ooomph.

I think its interesting to customise and see how it affects your game and I have definately come out of… Continue

Dodgy knees and the hardcourt season.

Forget the grass court season August is my favourite time with Montreal, Cincinnatti and the US Open all on the hard courts, great games, great point, just great tennis.

Who are your tri-bet for the series above, who will be number 1 when the US open is done? Will Nadal be back? Will Fed slip on baby sick and sprain his wrist? Will Roddick slip off his wife and sprain his ego (for want of a better word)? Will DP smack his head on the… Continue

Fed Twins! : Myla and ... Charlene?!?

federer twins with nike booties

Well, OK - we cheated. We couldn't find a pic of both babies today, so we just photoshopped this one. How did you figure it out? We think this is Charlene Riva rather than Myla Rose. But can I just stop and say, "Charlene?!?" really?... Charlene?

Zurich - Only hours after their widely anticipated birth, the twin daughters of Roger Federer and Mirka Vavrinec are already being tipped for tennis stardom, with London bookmakers Friday… Continue
