There's not that many safe public tennis courts out in Chatsworth. If you're willing to drive to The Master's College out in Newhall then I can be your hitting partner.

Beginner in Roseville

I just joined but don't know of any courts in my area. Are there any other beginners in the area who would like to play?

Two steps forward, ten steps backward

NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 09: Martina Hingis and Anna Kournikova play against Pat Cash and Mats Wilander during day eleven of the 2010 U.S. Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on September 9, 2010 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. OK I tried, I really did. I tried to tell myself that it was no big deal, just a bit of fun, that I really should just lighten to eff up and not make such a big deal of it. And while that is generally good advice that I generally take, I find that I am still galled by the spectacle of Pat Cash and Mats Wilander playing… Continue

Rafael Nadal and the Greatest Men's Slam Year EVER

There, I said it.

I've been pondering that since he clinched the U.S. Open title over Novak Djokovic, adding his name to the short list of players with a career Slam and the even-shorter list of players with a career Golden Slam. It's obvious Rafa had an awesome year at the Majors, but the best ever? You're probably thinking, "Dudes win three Slams a year all the time. How many times has Roger Federer done it? Heck, Mats Wilander even did it." Or you might be saying, "What about the… Continue

Changing faces at the top

Rafael Nadal’s historic claiming of the career Grand Slam rightly gets the headlines after the men’s US Open, but there have been other notable developments at Flushing Meadows. Nadal and Novak Djokovic’s careers

are going in an upward direction. The same cannot be said for Roger Federer and

Andy Murray.

Those who place regular tennis bets know that the handing of the baton of…

Why all the crapping on Wawrinka?

Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland returns the ball to Sam Querrey of the USA during fourth-round action at the U.S. Open held at the National Tennis Center on September 7, 2010 in New York. UPI /Monika Graff Photo via Newscom

I couldn’t believe the amount of crap Stanislas Wawrinka got just for taking a bathroom-break (bad pun intended). Even experienced commentators started talking about his “gamesmanship” for taking a bathroom break in the middle of the tense fifth set. I almost expected one of them to run out onto the… Continue

Tennis Elbow more than just a pain in the Arm?

It's a pain in the butt, too.

To make matters worse, for a tennis player, the cause

can be from a number of things:

1. Weak forearm muscles (either pronating or supinating)

2. Stiff Tennis Racquet

3. Too Stiff Strings

4. Too Loose Strings

Fortunately, if we get tennis (or golfer's) elbow from playing

tennis, we can usually pinpoint how to fix it dependent upon

which "stroke" causes the pain

1.… Continue

The selling of sex as tennis fashion

U S Open 2010 D6 04/09/10 Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) wins third round match Photo Anne Parker Fotosports International Photo via Newscom

Today’s tennis fashion offers a myriad of choices, ranging from inexperienced but earnest tennis pros seduced by the glamor implied in having their names attached to a clothing line, to established professionals who actually know what they are doing. The result is a particularly confusing… Continue

Some thoughts on women’s tennis fashion

NEW HAVEN, CT - AUGUST 28: Top seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark returns a shot to Nadia Petrova of Russia during the final of the Pilot Pen tennis tournament at the Connecticut Tennis Center on August 28, 2010 in New Haven, Connecticut. Wozniacki beat Petrova 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. (Photo by Matthew Stockman/Getty Images)

As a would-be fashionista, I find that I have been developing a growing appreciation of good tennis fashion. For me the best tennis outfits are put out by designers who understand how to combine form and

function, who are talented enough to fuse performance with style, who are creative enough to develop… Continue

Who can win the men’s event at this year’s US Open?

With US Open betting well underway, and fans, experts, and bookmakers all trying to decide who the real contenders for the men’s singles event will be, John McEnroe has taken the initiative and announced that he believes only three players can win this

year’s last Grand Slam event: Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Rafael…

I’ve been perplexed by the scathing criticism that John McEnroe has received for stating that the women’s tennis season is too long. To be fair, what he allegedly said was, “There should be less events for women. You need an actual meltdown on court or someone to quit the game altogether… Continue

Already deeply regretting my decision

May 11, 2010 - Madrid, C. A. Madrid, Spain - MADRID, 11/05/2010.- Italian tennis player Flavia Pennetta regrets after missing a point against German Andrea Petkovic during their Madrid Masters 1000 tournament's second round match played at the Magic Box Tennis Center in Madrid, central Spain, 11 May 2010. Petkovic won 7-6 (7/3) and 6-4.

I can’t believe I’m not going to the US Open this year. What was I thinking? Why did I allow my secretary to book me solid with patients on September 7th, which is normally the day I reserve for recovery and recuperation from a Labor Day weekend of tennis? Can I really, truly make it through the year… Continue

Big Babe Tennis vs. Hitting the Ball Hard

LONDON, ENGLAND - JULY 03: Serena Williams of USA serves during the Ladies Singles Final Match against Vera Zvonareva of Russia on Day Twelve of the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on July 3, 2010 in London, England. (Photo by Matthew Stockman/Getty Images)

...But what made me take the email more seriously was when I got to the end where my friend closed by pointing out an apparent inconsistency in my position. How come, she wrote, you say that you’re a fan of Big Babe Tennis and yet you have so little good to say about one of the biggest babes… Continue

Which wife of a tennis pro may be cheating?

Fresh on the heels of her soon to be ex-husband, the Dream's infidelity scandal, Christina Milian goes out for a ladies only night in West Hollywood, CA on July 26, 2010 with friend Serena Williams where the young singer and new mom looked like the extra dramatic baggage hasn't worn her down at all, or the weight of her wedding ring which was noticeably absent. Fame Pictures, Inc

I didn’t start the rumor. I’m only repeating it. I read it today on dlisted.com which copied it from a gossip blog called “Crazy Days and Nights” that specializes in sending out vaguely-worded clues about celebrity hook-ups. A… Continue

Pull her wide and the point is over

CINCINNATI - AUGUST 15: Kim Clijsters of Belgium hits a forehand return during her singles final match against Maria Sharapova of Russia on day seven of the Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open on August 15, 2010 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. (Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

...I watched the match yesterday between Kim Clijsters and Maria Sharapova. Other than big-serving, this was the single strategy each woman deployed against the other. Pull her wide and the point was over. Wide to the forehand and then wide to the backhand. Over and over. Rinse and repeat. And it worked.… Continue
