Big Babe Tennis vs. Hitting the Ball Hard

...But what made me take the email more seriously was when I got to the end where my friend closed by pointing out an apparent inconsistency in my position. How come, she wrote, you say that you’re a fan of Big Babe Tennis and yet you have so little good to say about one of the biggest babes around?

Well that is a very fair question, no? And it is true. I am a huge fan of Big Babe Tennis (BBT). I have always been. I know that it is popular to credit the William sisters with introducing BBT, but I think that a fairer statement is that they perfected it. There is no doubt in my mind that Monica Seles played BBT. So did Steffi Graf, her most consistent opponent. So did Lindsay Davenport. What the Williams sisters did, in my opinion, was add a layer of muscle and fitness that did not exist to that extent before. They introduced to tennis what Tiger Woods did to golf, a game that has also forever changed.

After reading this and pull her wide and the point is over blog, I really believe that Sharapova is big babe tennis. Just as Lindsay was BBT. What the Williams sisters brought may be something we never see again. Most girls who have the stature to play BBT do not have the footspeed and coordination to recover after being pulled wide so every point devolves into that pattern. You ask when the complete players will arrive? As long as the junior "mills" are around and parents want quick results for the money that they are spending on the girls, it won't change. Maybe the Williams style should be called BBBT Beyond Big Babe Tennis.
