Overthinking on the court!

I have nothing to gain from this blog but you do. Several years ago I went to the ATP in Cincinatti. It's a fabulous tourmanent. Tennis Week was there and I bought a years subscription, because I like the layout and stories and I got a T-shirt . It's an interesting mag. Multitasking!!

I never "blogged" before, but here goes nothing! I am so excited! I went over to the courts last night to hit with a group of friends, and for the first time, I actually was able to put thought into my game....does that make sense? Instead of simply hitting the ball back to the other person, I was able to focus on where I wanted the ball to go. Spring?

I can't wait until this winter in NYC is over.
I plan to start playing tennis as soon as the temperature is in the 50's.

One wrong thing messes it all up

Ever felt that there was something missing when you were learning something? You see how it's done, you know you can do it, and yet over and over you just can't and you don't know why. And then something clicks, and all of a sudden, you've got it, no prob.



This happened to me when I was learning the "dinky serve", that fall back serve where you throw up the ball and tap it into the other court. The first time I tried it, I couldn't get it to go consistently into the other… Continue

Felt like forever...

...since I prowled a tennis court, but I finally did tonight. It was dry and not as cold as it has been, so the roommate and I decided to hit some balls around after the Blazer game. We were both pretty rusty, but we drew a crowd of three: a mom, a dad and their toddler. After five rounds of collecting eight balls, and only two decent rallies, we called it quits. My last game against BM 4-6, 5-7

What I did right :



Relaxed during

my serve

Played my opponent backhand, which was his weak side

Anticipated and moved to the net when i saw my opponant was in trouble

Returned down the line on the even side

Moving to the net: Move in

straight line (no zig zag)

"Split" when my opponent was about to hit the ball.
