Flex League 2015 Match 2

Now that I played my last match it was time to play my first match. The place was a little closer to my house so it felt like a true home match. Temp was about 45 degrees Fahrenheit, another great spring day in Chicago.  It was about 5 pm so I was not sure if we would get the match in under natural light.

My opponent looked to be someone who had been bumped down so I was wary of higher level play. Once again he was a opponent with a one handed backhand and a big forehand.…

Flex League 2015 Match 1

My 1st match was actually my last match. My opponent was on vacation and wanted to get the match in. This being a flex league and I'm nothing if not flexible. I get the e-mail at work, but luckily I brought my bag and tennis clothes so we set up a time and place for the match.

I know another flex league sponsors Tennisopolis but as treacherous as the spring is in Chicagoland, playing in two flex leagues is tennis suicide. The match temperature was 52 degrees Fahrenheit and the wind…

Flex League 2015 Preview

I've been playing Gladiator Tennis since 2012, before my return to tournament singles tennis. Well, 2013 was the year of a bum knee and right shoulder that pretty much put me on the singles shelf. 2014 saw me return to GT at the level I was at in 2012 (4.5). The spring season was an abomination. I got my clock cleaned for 5 straight matches, lost a heartbreaking 3rd set tiebreak, and then won…

Isner Leads Upset Train at Miami Open

Top-seeded Serena Williams would not take her foot off the pedal against an opponent that had beaten her twice and reached No. 2 in the world on Monday at the Miami Open, steamrolling past No. 24 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-2, 6-3.

“Playing Svetlana, I know she’s super tough — we always have super tough matches,” Williams said. “The last time we played I was just fighting my hardest and I was barely able to win, so today I knew I had to come out super, super focused, and I really just…

Met Roger Federer at Indian Wells!

I can't believe my luck when I got to meet roger federer yesterday at indian wells!! was a amazing tennis moment! Just after his practice time at 4pm with Kohlschriber he came over to the fan section and signed autographs.  I was about the 30th person a long the railing and when he came to me he signed my RF Hat.  I asked him if he had received the federer fan book we sent him and he stopped and looked right at me and said he wasn't sure and that he has not…

The last time I CHOKED, and what I learned to fix it!

Sweaty palms, gasping for air, my knees were shaking under the bright UCSD lights. How could a day so irresistably beautiful turn into a nightmare?

I was up 5-1 at the Intramural championships and dominating this guy with my crushing groundstrokes and swift transition game.  If it weren’t for the fact that I didn’t have a swiss accent, I could have sworn I was Roger Federer that night.  I was feeling unstoppable.  Every shot I hit was…
