So I was making a tuna salad the other day and I noticed this small Omega 3 banner on the can of StarKist Solid White Albacore tuna. There are much tastier fresh, even frozen fish, for getting Omega-3, but I have been eating canned tuna (only Albacore now) as a quick and easy ingredient for a meal since I was a child. There are many health benefits to Omega-3's and I've listed them below.
Indicated on the label was the amount of EPA and DHA Omega-3 which was provided per serving, not just indication that it provided Omega-3 or even worse, simply fish oil. Fish oil, as indicated as only such, does not necessarily mean the meat (content) actually contains Omega-3's. This is a red herring some food and supplement providers may use as bait, hoping you don't quite catch on.
It's somewhat like the whole wheat versus whole grain debate that spread about bread products over the last several years. There is some technical definition for whole wheat, but personally my summary is whole wheat means nothing effectively and whole grain means the entire grain (containing a lot of good stuff) was used to produce the flour for or the product. Oh yes, I still prefer a PB&J or pimento cheese sandwich on white (labeled whole or hearty wheat) bread.
Labeling is marketing, but not always the true reflection of the product. We should all know this by now so check out the nutrition or supplement facts on the label to truly find out what's swimming around in that can of fish or fish oil supplement.
I love eating and cooking fish (There's so much you can do.), but not everyone one can get the amount of Omega-3's they need from fresh (fresh-frozen) fish or other products so a supplement may be a great addition to one's diet. A healthier complexion may be enough incentive.
Our Omega III Fish Oil with Vitamin E utilizes the smaller fish, sardines and anchovies, which typically contain fewer toxins as they consume less food and have a shorter life span. This supplement does not contain any Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO).
