El Gordo y El Flaco diss Federer

Madrid Tennis Open - Day Nine

Everything ran late this morning because of an ice-storm over the weekend. My first two patients had already called in late so there was no rush. I started getting ready for work at a leisurely pace. So I’m flicking the remote control between the various ESPN alternatives, hoping of course for some more celebration of Roger’s win yesterday. Instead I ran across Mike and Mike,… Continue

Day 14 - Roger Federer wins the Australian Open tennis 2010

I have a slight headache. This always happens to me after a Slam is over. It’s part sleep deprivation and part the winding down from days of over-excitement. I will sleep like a baby tonight. And because both Serena and Roger won, tonight I will have sweet dreams of symmetry and balance...

Men's 2010 Aussie Final

Murray played phenomenally throughout the tournament, so it was no surprise that he got to the final. Whereas the former champion Nadal was definitely not at his best and it was disturbing to see him pull out with yet another injury and it does make one wonder about his future in the sport. Federer had an amazing run as usual, and I honestly thought the final was pretty routine until the third set when Murray seemed to come alive and really began taking it to Fed. It was too little too late… Continue

The unofficial guide to USTA league ratings (1.0 to 7.0)

Some people may be confused with the USTA league ratings (1.0 to 7.0) so here is the unofficial guide.

1.0 - You stink. Your grabbing the wrong end of the racquet and you

think the green fuzz on the ball has something to do with velcro.

1.5 - You still stink, but you can tie your own tennis shoes and hit a

ball you have got in your hand towards one of the cardinal points

without hitting yourself in the leg.

2.0 - You have taken a… Continue

Australian Open Men's Semifinal 2 - Preview

It is almost insurmountable a task to beat Roger Federer when you are down 5-1 in the decider. Yet, a certain French Gentleman found the will and the determination to do just that and showed the world that he has arrived. We are talking about ATP star Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who last year registered the biggest win of his career at Montreal Masters where despite trailing 1-5 in the decider, he bounced back to beat Swiss Maestro Roger Federer in a gruelling tie-break. This is what makes Jo-Wilfried… Continue

Live: Serena Williams vs. Na Li

Serena Williams is one of the few players on the circuit who takes defeat, any defeat very seriously and no matter what the stage, she brings her best efforts to prove her supremacy over someone who has been 'troublesome' in the past. Similar is the case with her match-up today with Chinese wonder-woman Na Li, who literally pushed her to limits in their previous encounter last year and with a win over Venus Williams, is an opponent with a CONCERN.…

Should Rafa have swallowed a bagel?

Rafael Nadal

This article isn’t easy for me to write because more than loving Rafael Nadal, I also tremendously respect him. I respect his hard-assed determination, his bull-like persistence when playing a tennis. I like that he thinks for himself, rarely looks up at his box as his mind whizzes along, coming up with strategies and calculations to help him figure out how to crush his… Continue

Federer vs Hewitt - The Curse

The last time Lleyton Hewitt beat Roger Federer was in 2003, in Melbourne Australia. That was a long time ago. It must suck to always be in the same draw as Roger, especially if you have lost the last 13 meetings. How do you prepare? I mean it must be so hard to be Hewitt at a time like this, homeground, cheered on by the whole crowd. This is your chance, this is your turn to show the world that you can do it, you really can. Can you imagine the… Continue
