True, there are some top girls that would benefit from improved fitness. If you are slightly out of shape on the men's tour you are toast. But, that added weight does help the women hit a bigger ball sometimes, tough call, but same in college tennis.
don't forget Martina N. she became fitness fanatic. But many women can be very fit and still carry a few extra lbs.
yeah, its like being on eharmony!  heee heee heeeee
You Get a Snazzy point. you need 100 to winn.

It's hard to lose weight just playing tennis. Just doesn't burns many calories like other more aerobic sports.

I agree with Hal, sometimes added weight on the hips can accentuate the hip turn. I saw Bartoli hit much harder shots than Wozniacki at the BNP Paribas final. She really was utilizing her hips much better.

CoachV. I don't think this is a topic for good for discussion on Tennisopolis. It's degrading to women. In my years of tennis, I don't recall any female professional tennis player being overweight or out of shape. That is an oxymoron. If people in general are playing tennis, it's great a great activity for fitness, activity and fun.

you are so right

no its degrading to professional tennis women.
I agree with Dudley.  This headline is too extreme and I know that you, CoachV, are just amping it up, but basically the author is just citing a few pros who are not at the peak of physical condition.  We have a lot of great women members of Tennisopolis and I don't want this topic to scare them off.  One thing I really like about our community is that it is pretty free of drama and flame wars that are so common on message boards.  I'm going to edit the title of this thread.
Also, take the case of Jankovic, she decided to get stronger and fitter, and got too strong and muscled and lost her quickness and movement.
"Several current Top 25 women are overweight, which hampers their speed, agility and stamina." i really don't know why this worries some one. the struggle will happen regardless if their heart is in the game. that's what counts. they will do what they have to do ,are find something else to do if and when that time come.for, those who worry. maybe the face of this one little section of tennis is changing. but things always find a way to shake out... i am truely sorry they don't meet your stanards right away. i watched 2 weeks of tennis recently and love everything i saw.
Well I wrote the head line to spark attention to the main article. many of those pros are just what Im looking at any how * wink wink *. but the article is the real professional tennis disscussion. not general, not tips, not equipment. PRO TENNIS.
