friends?
I have noticed several threads turning a little hostile.
Im tryin to give a heads up to Tim and everyone that we are all going through things in real life. I never mean any disrespect but sometimes I speak my mind (even to doubles partners)l
As far as I see it tennisopolis is onto something that most of the tennis world is not. That makes us a team. I find myself cheering on alyisha simmons? I noticed she played dubs with someone who trained at my club) that would have never happened if i didnt see the pic on here.
I want mike to win the 4.0's. I encourage tim to compete. I want tennisopolis to invade the grand prix tournaments.
I think all this is cool. Keep in mind I yell at my clients for being 2 time losers when they do the shot wrong and miss. Doesn't mean I like them any less

I hear what you are saying John and could not agree more. I think we have something special here - a place online where true tennis fans can come to share ideas and debate, but that doesn't devolve into childish namecalling like on the rest of the tennis forums out there.
I have not seen but one thread where people were getting at each other. I think this is cool if it is all in good fun.

True John, although the web makes it easier for people to say things that they would never say in person, and allows many to boost themselves up since many here will never meet or play them. Would be nice to see players come together and encourage each other in their quest for tennis improvement in play or rankings.We however should not encourage sandbagging in my opinion, better to be smaller fish in the big pond, than big fish in a puddle.

It's okay here, John. But I do know I cannot train like I want to given my life situation. I do not know if I am headed to Thailand in two weeks time or not.
I don't have anything against tournament playing. I see myself still experimenting with different styles. Also, I am nearing the point where I feel I can do them all under pressure. I wonder if tournament playing is what I secretly relish.
But I am happy with my game, even if I never step on the court against those who made it their entire lifestyle. But I do understand why one would. It's the best game in the world.
I don't mind real criticism, as long as it is based on first hand observations. But to talk about numbers as being the end all is absurd to me. People are real, games are real, numbers are abstraction.

I feel you bro. Sometimes life gets in the dream. I wasn't trying to bag on you. I was just excited to find a 5.5 on the site. There are probably only a dozen 5.5's in sac. I guess I was more suprised that there haden't been much competition in your past.

Ok don't get mad at me John, but why worry about finding 5.5 guys to play in Sac there must be plenty of open/6.0 dudes or college players around that can rip. Plus these guys can help you in your quest for world ranking. The 5.5 div in NorCal has been seriously lacking the for some time with players dropping to 5.0 or just playing opens and most 5.5 tourneys have 2 or 4 guys if any at all. You are already playing the dubs open circuit and play in the high level Tuesday league so you have the skills.

Close... but The sac state kids (sharif, viera,) are 5.5's and win open level tournaments. The 5.5 leagues include players like tyler brown (legit pro who won the stead) famous daryl lee who was davis's last stand out singles player (unless lopez gets it goin, and I think he will)
Davis players are 5.5. I play with the former #2 singles/ #1 doubles guy. He only graduated a yr or two ago.
The only 6.0 in town is 30ish but has wins over hingis davenport and mueresmo.
I agree 5.5 tennis doesn't exist. But the people that are 5.5's usually have an interesting playing past to talk about...

Interesting, they don't have any 6.0/Open out at Goran's in Granite Bay, looking at Open rankings I see what you mean not many Sac area in there, Riggs and Sharif. What level do you put Weston, Wettengel, Motavassel, Brogan, Strom.....just curious. But it's always crazy with USTA cuz I know guys that are rated 5.0 that are definitely not 5.0.

Riggs is a 5.0. He doesn't do that great in our league. Shariff is 5.5
I played weston, he got me like 3 and 3. He could be a 6.0 but he's not up here.
I have played brogan to a tight third set. He's a really good 5.0 or medium 5.5. No better than xavier smith who I have 2 straight wins over

Wow, you are a tough grader, Wettengel would have to be a 6.5 and Weston gets the better of him now and then, Brogan has pretty impressive Open record, three sets with Edlefsen who played circuit recently. I still use most of this matrix for higher level ratings. I'm talking singles play for ratings discussion.
