I seem to be spending way to much time researching and studying the tennis industry these days so why not share some tidbits and brief notes here. It looks like Venus Williams is the proud owner of 5 or so Jamba Juice Franchises and will be promoting the brand as well... they do make the best smoothies, the kids love em!
A new racket brand -'bolt' is entering the market, apparently the racket has a suspension system that keeps the strings off the frame and therefore vibration is…

This Week in Tennis will be covering the majority of main draw matches at the Citi Open event next week in College Park, Maryland. You may have also heard the tournament referred to as being in Washington, D.C area. Citi Open is a first year event at the WTA International level and will feature Shahar Peer, Nadia Petrova, Tamira Paszek, and Jelena Dokic as its top four seeds. There are only three International level tournaments in the United States.
The Citi Open consists of a 32…

It's quarterfinals days at the two ATP World Tour events and the lone WTA Tour event this week. Unlike last week's Stuttgart event that featured no seeds in the quarterfinals, Hamburg seeds are in each quarterfinal spot this week. In Atlanta, at the first US Open Series event, the top three seeds survived the opening rounds. On the women's side, the Baku, Azerbaijan event's big story has been the…

Andy Murray, the world number four, has reached three grand slam finals, losing to Roger Federer twice and Novak Djokovic once. At 24 years of age he is at the peak of his physical fitness. Is he destined to win a slam in the near future, or has he been dealt a cruel hand by being a contemporary of three incredibly gifted tennis stars?
The most common remark heard around the tennis circuit, by other players, commentators and fans alike, is that Murray is too good not to win a slam.…

I am quite surprised this evening to see a Yahoo link to the Evert-Navratilova Final of the 1986 French Open. It made me realize again this is the way young juniors need to strive to play, and not right off like Sharapova, Nadal or the top players of today's men or women. It's great to have idols but beginning juniors need to start slow and develop their games. Basic tennis is about proper form, technique, getting the ball into play and keeping it in play. As juniors mature, they…

I am conflicted regarding this tournament that is being held in Hamburg this week. Tennis betting or sports betting in general is ILLEGAL in the United States, but an ATP tournament in Germany is underwritten by an online sports betting company from Austria? First off I do not gamble on tennis or any sport so I find it a little disturbing that we are sending such conflicting signals to our children. Is it not true that the prize money comes from the sponsors and the sponsor is an online…

This week marks the start of the Olympus US Open Series as first round matches start in Atlanta, Georgia at the Atlantic Tennis Championships on July 18th. If you're still clinging to the clay court season, you'll be happy to learn the ATP World Tour event in Hamburg, Germany is being played on the red stuff. There's only one women's tournament this week and that's in Baku, Azerbaijan on hard courts. Maybe by the end of the week I'll be able to spell Azerbaijan from…

Yesterday, the ATP World Tour proved that just because the top four seeds are playing in the semifinal round doesn't mean the quality is going to be spectacular. In the Skistar Swedish Open at Bastad, Sweden the top four seeds were in action and in the first match Robin Soderling gave up only one game against Tomas Berdych and the second match wasn't much better as David Ferrer only surrendered four…
