For me, the most wonderful time of the year on the tennis calendar is the weekend of first-round Davis Cup action. Yes, that's right: I'm an unabashed DC fan. Not exactly the most popular thing to be a fan of, but I'm always into it--for the most part. Even though last year's final didn't exactly do it for me, I'm really looking forward to these ties.
And since I'll be following all the results closely, I figured I'd try to write something about each tie, and predict what player will… Continue

When Ernests Gulbis won his first singles tournament at Delray Beach, FL, last week, I felt a sense of pride for him that was out of proportion with his achievement. You’d swear he was from the Caribbean or something. I could only be prouder if and when Dustin Brown of Jamaica finally makes his own breakthrough. There’s something about people from small countries achieving big… Continue

I used to play in high school and college but haven't picked up a racket in about 5-8 years. I'm looking to hit around and play as a form of excercise. Interested in meeting up at a local court sometime soon. Touch base with me at erin.herzog@Hotmail.com if interested.

Hiya, I just recently moved from Wisconsin and I used to play USTA tennis leagues for years there. I am rated 4.0 on the USTA rating system. I live in Studio City (south of Ventura) and would be interested in starting up again soon. I am free most weeknights after 6 pm and my weekend schedule is flexible. Please let me know if you are interested. Cheers!
Today’s New York Times online has a lovely article about the importance of touch as a form of non-verbal communication that may enhance sports performance. In the accompanying picture appears a shot of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic giving each other a chest bump during the fund-raising event organized by Roger Federer as a prelude to the Australian Open.… Continue
You probably know the rumors are flying about a possible Rafa/ Shakira romance brewing even though the duo has denied it on more than one occassion. Just now, 18 steamy photos were released of Nadal in a new Shakira video.
I had to laugh when I read that Marat Safin has already decided to return to tennis, except on the Champions Tour. The Champions Tour? Can you say "sandbagging"?
...And my theory is that from day one, Tiger was shaped into being a golf machine. In this he reminds me of Agassi who, in his gut-wrenching memoir, recounts the lengths that his father went to in his bid to shape a tennis champion. Earl Woods was an LTC in the Army and an expert in prisoner investigation. I’ve read that he used some of these mental techniques when… Continue

Lord have mercy. That was my first reaction when into my inbox appeared a link to bossip.com with a picture of Serena doing somebody’s feet. Apparently Serena has decided to purchase a nail salon and, like any good business woman, has perhaps elected to educate herself from the ground up. So there she was with an orange stick and somebody’s not-so-attractive feet, as… Continue
