My best string setup is Solinco Tour Bite at 54 lbs. I have absolutely no complaints with this string, gives me all the spin I could ever want, not too stiff to where I can still feel pocketing for my volleys, but stiff enough to hit out, with a similar ALU type coating. In my Tecnifibre 325 VO2 max, it sings to me like a good guitar string.

What's your best string for the year 2012?

Did you hybrid the VS in the mains or crosses?

I put the VS in the mains. I tried it in the cross and that definitely lasted less. In the mains, you get all the benefits of the gut but a little stiffer stringbed and a tad less zip for more control. The way Fed and Djokovic are doing it now.

I didn't know Djoko was using VS.

Fed is the only Top level pro who uses the natty gut - Alu Rough hybrid. Most other players prefer to use the Alu Power Smooth. Djokovic & Cilic uses nat gut mains and Alu Power Smooth crosses. Murray uses Alu Power Smooth mains and Nat gut crosses.

I prefer natty gut mains and Alu Power crosses because I'm an all court feel player. People who are used to poly will prefer the Alu in the mains and the natty gut in the crosses.

Difference between Alu Rough and Alu Smooth is not that big in my view - I actually preferred the slightly softer feeling Alu Power Smooth to the Alu Power Rough. I also felt the Alu Power Smooth had a bit better tension retention than the Alu Power Rough, but we're talking small variations here.....

Best thing is to try both strings in a natty gut hybrid and decide for yourself, which of the two you prefer

You will get Rough lover comments and Alu Power Smooth lover comments in here, so best thing is to test them yourself !

Kiteboard: Listen to this guy, once again, he always seems to hit the nail on the head with one blow.

Yes, and quite a few more are using in the mains, at least that is what I saw at the challenger tourney.

Here's the 2012 list: http://www.colinthestringer.com/pros-strings/

part of the list:

Juan Martin del Potro Wilson [K] Six.One 95
Luxilon Big Banger Alu Power 62lbs

Novak Djokovic Head YouTek IG Speed MP 315 18×20
Babolat VS Team Natural Gut/Luxilon Big Banger Alu Power Rough 55/52lbs

Roger Federer Wilson Pro Staff Six.One Tour BLX

Wilson Natural Gut/Luxilon Big Banger Alu Power Rough 48.5/44lbs

David Ferrer Prince EXO3 Tour
Luxilon Big Banger Original 51lbs

Juan Carlos Ferrero Prince EXO3 Tour
Luxilon Big Banger Original 53/51lbs

Richard Gasquet Head YouTek IG Extreme Pro
Luxilon Big Banger Alu Power 58lbs

Guess Soderling, Berdych and Kuerten use the ALU at 55-56 lbs. Closest to me out of the bunch. Or Rafa at 54 with RPM. :)
