How many of these shots can you do, and how man can you use comfortably in a match? I read this article today, and I thought to myself...
I use three of the six on this list, and I don't plan on changing my two handed backhand to a one hander,I can say having three out of five is pretty good. Although, I don't use the body serve as much as I should, I do feel that the body serve is the easiest of the six to acquire.
Do you practice these shots, and if you do, which one do you find the easiest?
1. One-Handed Backhand
2.Drop Shot/Drop Volley
3 The Body Serve
4 Deep Returns
5 The Looper
6. Backspin Forehand
Thank you Peter Burwash for this discussion.

#3 with practice I might add.
I personally use 5 of the 6. I tend to stay away from the looper, unless I am way out of position, then I throw a very deep high ball to buy some time. I should practice #6 more, it is one of the more touchy shots. I also need to refine #1. That is my struggle shot, do I come over, or do I slice. Frustrates me a lot.
You know, don't write off the looper. Some guys can't handle a looper to their backhand. I always hit a few loopers during the warm up to see how they handle it. You can tell right away how comfortable they are with it. For some guys it is like kryptonite.
Well, heck! I use them all. In fact, that's half my game right there. j/k
I definitely use a one hander, I am known for my drop shot. I use the body serve a ton (my college prof tells me I have the best jammer).
I like to hit my returns deep and down the line on deuce side behind the server. Inside out forehand returns on the ad, behind the server. If he smells that, I go down the line.
The looper is my tool against big driving opponents, to make them hit above their shoulders and lessen the drive opportunities. I don't hit low pace loopers, but will hit heavy kick topspin drives to bait a macho driver to try to match pace and hit long.
Backspin forehand (squash shot) is essential for on the run retrieval of drive balls. I've hit passing shots with that one, too. Use a backhand Aussie grip and slide under the ball hard like a knife.
Learn them all, because variety is KING!
Yeah, I use them all as well, but for weapons I have only three. A good backspin forehand is pretty tough, on the WTA, I see it used a lot more then on the ATP, I wonder why that is. Does anyone know why?
It's harder to learn how to knife the slice with the forehand side. You have to hit a little later than usual. I would say that the women are used to slugging it open faced so when it comes to "closed face to the sky" forehand slice, it isn't in their biomechanical usage.
I do 'em all, with varying degrees of success. It all depends on what the situation warrants. The body serve is probably the hardest one though, as I don't have that kind of pinpoint accuracy on my serve yet. As for the one-handed bh, I used to do mostly slice, but with the help of Timmy (and others), it's starting to become a weapon. It's still only pellet gun status compared to my fh, but it's getting there.
You do the bloopy fh and the dropper, eh? Ganna have ta check it OUT! lol
