Early predictions for the 2012 Australian Open (only a week before it starts!)

Be bold and make your picks a week early! Let's make it a little more interesting. Because it is so early, we can make a first pick, second pick and a third.

Here are my picks for the Australian Open: men's (Djokovic, Murray, Tsonga), women's (Stosur, Kvitova, Azarenka).

I know my picks are a little strange, even for me, but that is what my guts say. What does your guts say?

Hmm, now that's nine years. I don't even remember my own inner 2003. Hope Andy remembers his!

A rod will struggle, he haas a nightmare draw. If he makes the second week he'll be happy. On these slightly slower hard courts he can't be as dominant on serve and he needs to stop floating his backhand. Wawrinka beat him up last year can't see him doing much.

They really slowed down the courts with that Plexicushion surface. Martina Navratilova tried the court and she's saying it's slower than red clay. That's gonna slow down anyone's big serve unfortunately.

He looked pretty good last night in more ways than one! I don't forsee him having any problem!  But then again, he has been known to choke a time or two.

Who knows, right? I remember big serving Ivanisevic come in as a wild card sleeper and he won Wimbledon. One of my favorite, emotional win of all times. Maybe Roddick can win in that fashion!

Great match between Tsonga and Istomin, much closer than the score. Istomin is one of those crop of guys I thought would be top10 challenger but sadly just cant sustain a level that would enable him to do that. Its a shame cos he's a super player.

Istomin has that great one hander. I would put him in the category of Stakhovsky and Thiemo de Bakker. Big games, but need polishing or finessing.

I cant believe Stosur is out in the first round!  I was hoping she would at least get to the quarters.  I am really impressed with Ryan Harrison.  He was making Murray work for every point.  Ryan has a beautiful second serve.  I would like to see Tsonga win, he is a very entertaining player.   Im kind of hoping Murray will get to the finals.  That would make Ivan so proud!  I would like to see a Tsonga-Murray final.

I guess Stosur had too much pressure by her fellow Aussie fans. Too bad! I really like her game.

Yeah, I think Harrison's serve bears a lot of influence from good ol' Sampras. He really arches his back alot and comes all the way around.

I think Ivan would be proud if Murray won the darn thing. It would be about time!

great matches between Isner/nalby and dolgo/kampke, 5 setters, Im very tired, just watched Tomic win, then turned over to see Dimitrov capitulate and now on to Stan and hopefully he will beat Baggy......then I'll get a wash ha!!

wow baggy just smashed 4 rackets in their plastic bags....totally lost it!!

Baghdatis did what? That's downright Safinish. He's probably feeling these are his last years perhaps.
