Nadal broke seven racquets all at once, according to Gaudio!

Against the beliefs of many, Spanish player Rafael Nadal breaks racquets too, said Gaston Gaudio in an interview published in the sports section of the website of the La Nacion newspaper. The Argentinian ex-player also recounted old stories involving Roger Federer, the ex-footballer Gabriel Batistuta and the football coach Marcelo Bielsa.

According to Gaudio's story, it happened in the quarterfinals of the 2005 Buenos Aires tournament, in which Gaudio beat Nadal 0-6 6-0 6-1. The Spaniard was 18 at the time and would win Roland Garros four months after that. After his defeat, Rafa was furious and in the locker room he wasted all of his racquets. "What's the deal with this guy, is he crazy or what?", thought Gaudio, who now admits that, even back then, he was aware that he had just beaten an "off-the-charts talent, one in a century".

"He broke all his racquets, the seven of them. I thought he was crazy. I mean, it wasn't like he had lost to a nobody. I was a pretty good clay-courter, the reigning Roland Garros champion at the time, but for Rafa it was such a failure, he couldn't stand it", reminisced Gaudio, who defined Nadal as "one of the chosen few".

Amazing story !

Yes, considering Uncle Nadal said this: "He has never broken a racket in anger. It would be showing a lack of respect to people who actually have to buy the equipment to play the sport."

Wow, he grew out of it suddenly.  I can't think that I have ever seen Nadal smash a single racket.

Yeah, I've never seen him do it either. Just like Borg, grew out of it.
