My doubles partner, blayde, and I won the open doubles tournament this weekend on the Sonoma State campus. My doubles partner is in his mid 40's and won the 5.0 singles draw (he asked me not to play 5.0 singles lol)

It was fun beating several current ssu players... always is =)

The draw did something nice for us and after watching the other semi I didn't think we had much of a chance in the final.

Some 14yr old won the open singles. He is raw

Great story John!  Must be a great feeling taking out the SSU kids.  What is the key to holding your serve at the open level in doubles?

It looks like that kid is not 14 anymore. Unless he graduated high school early.  The tennisrecruiting site lists him as class of 2010 and says that he has signed a letter of intent at SSU.    He looks like a stud none-the-less.  He won 6-0, 6-1 in the final of the Open!  That is insane.  http://www.tennisrecruiting.net/player.asp?id=260128

OOOPS  I was looking at the semi-final, not the final.  That kid is sick!  14 year old Cameron Klinger:  http://www.tennisrecruiting.net/player.asp?sessionid=4DFF79C441A0F659

Class of 2015 took out the number one SSU player Matthew Roberts.  Damn John, what is that kid's story?

He's been playing a some futures tournies, gets wild cards and entries, serious game, played in the Tiburon challenger qualies.
To hold your serve in an open doubles match you just have to make your first serves. Peoples mindsets change when they get to rdy to receive a second serve and it makes the first volley tricky.

Cameron is Raw. He stands about 5'10. Good serve, great forhand that he doesn't miss when he juices it up (and its large when he does) the singles final was close. Matthew was serving for the second set...
I'll try to put this into action tomorrow night.  We have our 4.5 league.   In singles I break a lot and get broken a lot. I normally beat people by breaking them more than they break me.  In dubs, I can't count on the breaks as much.
Untill a week ago my doubles partner was the prince rep. Here in norcal. Not a bad person to know =p
He's not the rep anymore, dang that was short he was a nice guy when I talked to him. Nice win by the way.
Super nice guy but I think he said he was a prince rep 15yrs?
hmm, not sure, he came to my club and had just taken over for the rep who had been with Prince rep for like 20 years. I thought Blade had owned a tennis shop near Stanford before. It's funny because the former Prince rep is now Bab rep and Blade's boss Dustin Perry was the Bab rep. Musical chairs.
And thanks, we were definitely not favored in that final ;)

But its doubles, stranger things have happened I guess
Congrats on the win! That's definitely good advice on getting the first serve in.

a Whooo Hoooo!!!  Congrats! Lucky number 7!!!
