Allowed Nadal only a mere four points. Incredible, along with winning the doubles with his brother Jamie. What went wrong with Nadal?

Sounds like Murray is playing really well.  thanks for the update.  I'll go look for some video highlights.  Is Rafa still injured?
Murray should be close to overtaking Roger for that number 3 spot. Roger's scheduled to play in his home town for 500 points at the end of the month. What are the odds of Andy reaching the top 3 at the end of the year? I think there's only a masters and the finals for 1500 points left for grabs.

Say it isn't so!  Fed dropping to number 4?!?

Now, that just doesn't sound right.

It would only be temporary.  Fed will bounce back, Rafa will too, and they will have one more year of occupying the top two spots.  Rafa #1, Fed #2.  There is no way Djoko can defend all those points, and Murray jumping over Fed is an abboration.
I concur.  Awfully tough for Nole to defend all the points.  But then again, if he does defend most of those points, his place in tennis history will be solidified.
I think he's already a hall-of-famer, no question.  But if he has another year like 2011, he might be in the top 5 discussion.   With Rafa getting hurt and Fed fading, I see Nole solidifying the number one spot.  I see Murray gaining confidence - hopefully he can grab a major in '12.
Murray is too much of a head case.  He has all the ability, but when it comes to the pressure he still turns to mommy and screams like a little girl.  Rafa will be back and healthy.  Fed is fading, and I seriously doubt he will win even one more major.  Djoko will not have another 2011 in 2012.  Cannot see it.

Becker called Murray out on being a momma's boy, and said he needed to be away from her a long while back.

Well, 2011 Djoko was mentally toughest, more than Fed or Nadal. Looks like he has intercostal injury which will keep him out of Shanghai. If he does not get in physical shape soon, I hate to see what happens at the year end Masters for him.

For 2010, Nadal was the mentally strongest. Even Nadal admitted, in a recent interview, he may be more consistent in 2011, but didn't do the small things required to win as well.

Fed has to be more powerful and finish points sooner. Once he is the one running, he loses his advantage and grip on the match. He needs to maintain a higher intensity. I still think his 3rd and 4th set against Djoko at the U.S. Open was so lackluster.

Top 5? He would need at least three more solid years to merit that. Top 5 would be coming right behind the following: Laver, Borg, Sampras, Federer, There are alot of candidates for that fifth spot: McEnroe, Connors, Lendl, Nadal, Agassi, etc.. I vote for Mac because he has 70+ singles and 70+ doubles titles. Others would vote for Connors for 100+ tournament wins.
This is the one case I think the defending points system is not reasonable. It is a slippery slope for whoever's on top. To duplicate a stellar season is impossible, but to stay on top is even harder it seems with that points system.
Oh.. Murray is poised to take over the 3 spot if he defends his title in a few hours. He'll have to beat Ferrer though..
Geez, he did it! He's definitely in winning form. 25 out of 26 matches won!
