I put my 11 match winning streak on the line this weekend in lafayette. (Haven't lost a tournament 5.0 since early 07 when I def'd a final after subluxating my shoulder in the semi)
I won. The final was good bc the guy plays for the livermore team that beat us in the section final in pebble beach. I fought off 4 set points including one at 6-5 his serve in the breaker. He kind of rolled over and died after that and I was up 5-0 before he knew what happened in the second. In the semi finals I hit a tweener back low and then a passing shot on match point. The first round this serve and volley'er stayed back to practice. My client played his first 4.5 tournament and did pretty well. He won one and lost one.
If anyone in norcal is thinking about playing a tournament at the lafayette tennis club I would skip it. My first round was at 8pm. I had a junior go on at 9pm at one of Hunters tournaments. There were only 3 18 packs of carona, and that's fine but what is everyone else going to drink? And the trophy is the dinkiest trinket ever. I expected a little more bc this is always one of the more expensive tournaments
I have to agree with you John. I was looking at some of the other draws,(like yours) and couldn't believe some of the the late start times. I was actually surprised that they had beers, this is the first tournament I've seen that offered beer. And regarding that "Dinky" trophy...that's it? That's what I'm working so hard for? lol One thing that I am grateful for, is the AWESOME weather that prevailed! Catch you around bud!
