I saw that on natural gut you can use wax for better resistance but for me not resistance is important as it is the movement of strings. I saw that for better spin is very important that mains are moving freely on the string bed and even poli's are usually much more slippery I was thinking that some wax can improve the movement and lifetime (as far as there is less friction between strings).

So, do you think it helps? What can be used as wax?

PS- I'm using Signum Pro Tornado 1.17 strings at 59.4/57.2 tension on Aero Pro Drive GT...

I have no experience with this, but I wonder if the wax would stay on the poly strings or if it would come off on the ball?  I know the gut has more textured and would likely hold onto the wax more....
BTW, I moved this thread to the Equipment section of the Forum.

I had the same thinking way but if the wax is somehow solid maybe it can enable the moving of strings...

Anyway this discussion and idea was triggered from another material found here that was presenting the slow motion move of poli strings on impact and the conclusion that the strings should be somehow elastic and they should slide easy up and down for a good spin (I'm talking about the mains)... Starting from this point I was thinking that some kind of wax specific for these materials can help and the second conclusion was that is better to use profiled/twisted strings for mains and some normal poli strings (without any profile or texture) for crosses in order to let the mains move faster and freely up and down on hit... Anyway, these were just personal thoughts and I will try to test it next time when I will string the racket... Till then I'm waiting your feedback and ideas about.

If you want more spin you would be better off using a round rather than rough string. You could also drop the tension of your crosses by another pound or two (though I wouldn't have a difference of more than 4lbs between the mains and crosses).
Very interesting idea. I wonder if something cheap could work, like pomade or ski wax. The one string that really comes greasy is Prince Recoil. I didn't like that much sliding action, because it seemed to sling the ball instead of pinpoint control for drives.

ski wax if is enough solid could work... sure, maybe the balls get dirty a little bit initially but anyway you kill them during the game :)

I will check with some ski wax next week :)

I'd be very interested to see what the results are. I am going to try a few things myself.
