Federer versus Soderling

Okay, this match may not hold a whole lot as far as the Madrid Masters Tournament goes, but I think if Fed doesn't win, he may be on the outside looking in.  Fed beat Sod two years ago in the French Final, and mentally should be able to draw on that to prevail.  However, he almost lost to Lopez in a three hour three tie breaker set match two days ago.  Fortunately he easily beat Malisse today, but still, he is appearing vulnerable, and Sod is a big hitter.  What's ya'lls take on this match and the implications it may hold for the near future?

Fed is getting older.  What else is there to say about it?  ;-)  I certainly hope that he comes through.  Going into the future, the favor falls heavily on the younger opponents.  But I'm sure Fed can still show some brilliant moments and if tournament draws open up for him, he can still win any tournament.  He'll need much more luck with the draws in the future for sure.  ;-)

Ya, I think it's time for Fed to pass the torch.  Although he pulled out the W against Soderling!   :)

I don't think it will mean much, but my pick is Federer in this match (they are knotted up in the first set as I type this).  Overall, Federer holds a 15-1 record against Soderling with the only loss coming on clay.  If Soderling beat him on hard court, then I think it would mean a little more.  But, everyone knows this is not Roger's favorite surface.  It would surprise me if either one of them got past Nadal in the semis though.  I find it hard to write Federer off so easily, and certainly not because he has a hard time winning a championship on clay.

The match against Lopez was a phenomenal match, really spectacular.

Yep, Fed pulled it off.  Now what about Ferrer v Nole which is on right now?

Damn, I was actually rooting for Ferrer.  He looked good when he won the second set.  Especially when Ferrer broke Nole twice!  Then, Nole just turned it up in the third.  Nole is the MAN!
