I came across an article in yahoo sports about Elena retiring. Its kind of hard to believe because there was never any real decline in her game the article mentions the injuries that she suffered in 2010 but I think Elena had 2 or 3 more good years of high quality tennis left in her. Maybe she has "baby fever" but whatever the case the women's game is worse off without ED.
So true - I was shocked to hear it. You never know, she may have been able to pull off a slam. She was always there - now, she will never know for sure. Sad.
Interesting thought. It had not occurred to me, the way it did with Sampras, but that just might be what she is waiting for - to go out with a bang. Do you think any major will do?
She's one of the senior women that forced the competition to play better. Outside of a Slam, she was a force to be reckoned with always -- it's a shame to see someone like her leave the game. She was one of my favorites.
