Tennisopolis : Tennis Social Network

So last night I spent about 4 hours at tenniswarehouse.com, they have really great info in the learning center and in the forum!

Anyway, they also have a really cool demo program, you can have up to 4 racquets out at a time, for a week, only $21.

So I spent the four hours narrowing all the racquets down by headsize (90-95,97) and by weight (simply making sure they didn't way less then the lightest used by Hewitt and Ivanovic, which is the lightest of the entire selection) and it came down to all of these....

Is there any I should just flat out avoid? The order I will be demoing will be from the highest rated from their reviews to the lowest, starting with the Wilson K Factor Six One Tour 90 (http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Reviews/K61T90/K61T90Review.html)

I already play with a 95sq. in headsize, so I'm giving 90, 93s (I think one is a 93) a shot too.

Anyway here is the list, please let me know what I should avoid!

(alphabetical order, not over rating order thanks to I.E. :( )

Dunlop Aerogel 2Hundred
http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Reviews/DAG200/DAG200Review.html

Yes! My racquet of choice, excellent frame, a bit advanced for the medi-ocre player. *hint*

Sweet players frame, Baghdatis uses one similiar.

Stay away from Gamma racquets. I have heard terrible feedback.

Good choice.

Ehh, a lot of people don't like the Liquidmetal as much, I guess it's an acquired feel.

Tight players frame.

My old racquet. A bit skinny, but you get used to that.

Prince O3 Tour

My coach uses this racquet. Again, a players frame so the sweetspot won't be big. Has a tin(ny) feel.

Volkl always makes quality racquets except for the V-Engine, which I've never liked.

Like the KSix One, you will have a hard time using this racquet unless you are an advanced player! It's going to be hard to get the sweetspot, and controlment will be lacking if you're not advanced enough to use these frames.

Yonex RDS 001
http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Reviews/RDS001/RDS001Review.html

I tried this, as many people recommend it, but I felt like it didn't have enough power for me. Everyones different!

Yonex RDS 001 (no review, just feedback; improved 2008 version)
http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageRCYONEX-RDS108.html

It's going to play the same as the original, the only updates is the soft grommet system and the paintjob.

Yonex RQiS 1 Tour
http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Reviews/RQIS1T/RQIS1TReview.html

I've always wanted to try this frame, from the paintjob to the performance, it's looks like an ideal stick. However, the one problem is the fact that its power level is very low. If you can generate enough power to use this racquet, then go for it!

For you, I believe some of the best choices would be the aerogel series, a bit biased, but terrific frames. Also, you might want to try mid+ before you get into the mid sized player frames, because they are for the advanced player only. I'm not saying you aren't but it's not like you have a sweet racquet right now, ¬_¬.
Also, try the Yonex RDS 002 if you like playing with the yonex's, and you might also like the Prince Speedport Black based on the list you made.
I second J's recommendation for the Dunlop frames. I've played with both the 200 and 300 and both are awesome frames. I chose the 300 because I wanted a slightly bigger head (the 300 is 98sq in vs 95sq in for the 200), but I add a considerable amount of lead tape to my Aerogel 300.

I've played with Dunlop for a really long time and they really make great racquets.

No Babolats on your list? That's surprising to me since they're so popular. I like the Pure Storm (I hate the Pure Drive frame).

For Prince, I can't play with any of those O series racquets with those big holes at the top. My shots go flying.

I've never played with Yonex, Volkl, Fischer, Gamma or Kneissl, but I would definitely stay away from Gamma. I too have heard terrible things about them. I honestly don't know how that company exists, because I hear terrible things about all their products--strings, balls, etc.

I would like to try a Yonex some day. I just haven't gotten around to it.

I've tried a few Heads, and would agree that the Liquidmetal takes some getting used to. I didn't like the one I tried and gave up.

I've tried a few Wilsons too, and they make some good frames. I just never achieved the same level of comfort I did with any Wilson frame that I do currently (have been for the last 15 years) with Dunlop.
Hi Andrew!
This is exciting - I guess you are giving up the 5 dollar racquet?
I don't know a lot about all these racquets except the Wilson nsix-one 90. I played with it and it is very heavy. The head is also very very small by today's standards. I think you should be looking for a 98 sq. inch and up. That is one racquet on your list that doesn't seem right for an intermediate player. But have fun with the process - I'm jealous of you actually. It's fun to get a new frame at the start of the season.
M
I already play with a 95 sq. in Wilson Hammer lol..

thanks for the advice though, it'll really save me some money by avoiding the flat out bad ones!
So which racquet did you ended up getting?
none yet :/ no demos either.. need to find the time to play regularly!
Hi Andrew,

From a lot of experience of trying out rackets I can recommend only one. The Volkl V-Engine. Keep the tension low 52-52 and its great.

Daniel
for those who said stay away from GAMMA. i think differently. i like the rackets. they worked for me very well. a very control oriented racket. i've strung the G325 below the recommended tension @ 45 lbs. lo and behold it's almost like playing with a dunlop 200G that i used to have. the new rackets that gamma will be introducing are set for release next month. the number on the racket is the actual weight in grams. the higher the number the heavier. the 95 sq.in rackets are great for you young ones. but as i get older i need a racket to work for me so i can keep pace with you 20 and 30 year old players. the solution? a prince original graphite OS. nothing beats a classic.

Andrew - Would suggest you check out a few frames in the new Prince EXO3 line...Prince EXO3 Rebel 95 (Monfils's stick) and Prince EXO3 Rebel Team 95 (slightly lighter version of the Rebel)- as well as the Prince EXO3 Graphite 93 (there is a 100 sq. in headsize option too)

TW has reviews of the EXO3 Rebel posted at this point.
