The top seed is Vera Zvonerva with Sania Mirza second.  It's a really small venue, with 3000 seats so you're really close to the court.  Ticket run as cheap at $6 US dollars to $30 dollars.  The one caveat is the heat--the stands are covered but it's HOT HOT HOT.  I'll be updating this discussion with pictures and thoughts.

my thoughts on pro practicing before the tournament
This girl warmed up for 20 minutes before even hitting a ball and seeing how they only had an hour on court, I was wondering why she didn't do her offcourt stuff before getting there...course it is Vera

In the Semifinals, Tamarine was playing unreal. She was playing sharp angles--forehand cross backhand cross. The Girl had no chance.. and beat the heck out of her 6-2, 6-0. More of a match up match than skill thing, Tamarine had beaten her at the Aussie so Tamarine was in the Finals.

Vera had a tough match in the semis.

I considered Vera to be a premier ball striker after watching her practice, but during the match, it's like her talent gets in the way, she plays some crazy shots, has a shaky serve, and misses shots she just shouldn't be missing for #9 in the world.

Tamarine also went on to win the doubles so she was playing singles and doubles everyday, pretty tough for a 32 year old lady. Vera is a tough, steely eyed fiery competitor. There was a sequence in the second set at 5-3, Vera serving 30-0, and the baseline calls that were pretty shaky, got really shaky. that linesman? anyways two really iffy calls went against Vera--she was almost in tears as she stormed to the net to talk to the ump, but it was over. She lost that game, and it went back on serve. IN the end, Vera was playing too well while Tamarine was missing her crosscourts and couldn't dictate like she had done previously.

Interesting stat, the last time they played in 2008 was Wimbledon where Tamarine won in 3 sets.

and she lost in the qualies finals--well, she retired.
Great Stuff Gary!
