Great player, great fan, and, by all accounts, great person, writer David Foster Wallace was found dead of an apparent suicide last weekend by his wife. He was 46. Perhaps most pertinent to this site is the exhaustive profile of Roger Federer he wrote for the NY Times magazine.
His prose was precise and transcendent. It's sad he had to leave this soon.

Rest in peace indeed. I wasn't familiar with him, at least by name. I had read his story Federer as Religious Experience (the NYTimes article you mentioned) and thought it was great. I'm going to go find out some more about this talented person.

From NPR:
David Foster Wallace, a fiction writer and essayist who was a serious junior tennis player, has a well-documented love of the sport. His hulking novel Infinite Jest was partly set at a tennis academy, and his Esquire article about the talents of "power-baseliner" tennis pro Michael Joyce is part of the collection A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again.
there is somthing about DFW here as well http://www.quadorb.net/adc
