Alisa Kleybanova fighting cancer at age 22

Source: This Week in Tennis

On her 22nd birthday, Alisa Kleybanova, posted an update on her life on the WTA Tour website. In the blog post, the rising star from Moscow, Russia revealed that she’s fighting Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which is a form of cancer. Kleybanova hasn’t played on tour since May and instead of enjoying her youth on the tennis court, she’s undergoing treatment in Perugia, Italy and trying to stay positive.

Kleybanova’s news strikes close to home for me, as my father fought Hodgkins back in the 80′s and thankfully survived after many years of worrying and annual check ups. The important thing right now for Alisa is to stay strong by surrounding herself with her family and positive influences. She can fight this just like my Dad did many years ago and will come out of it a much stronger person. One thing is for sure, Alisa Kleybanova has strong support from This Week in Tennis and fans around the world.
