Today’s New York Times online has a lovely article about the importance of touch as a form of non-verbal communication that may enhance sports performance. In the accompanying picture appears a shot of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic giving each other a chest bump during the fund-raising event organized by Roger Federer as a prelude to the Australian Open.…

I play for four different tennis teams right now. That means, with shuffling line-ups and subs, I may have four different partners each week. In the course of a month, I can theoretically be partnered with sixteen different people!
So, each month, I may be learning how to partner and achieve success with sixteen different people. And, sixteen different people may be sizing me up, considering my tennis game, deciding if I am the kind of partner they ever want to play with…

This week, I only got to play two out of three of my leagues due to Yom Kippur that fell on Monday evening.
Singles went quite well last week. One thing my hubby has always noted about my game is that I'm not aggressive enough. I definitely try to play pretty safe to make sure my shots are consistent, but that also means fewer winners and longer rallies. But last week, I tried to step it up a bit, with a goal to not be the last court still playing the match, like I usually am. And…

Last week was the first week I played three league matches, and I must say it was a BLAST!
The first night was women's round robin doubles, and definitely the longest night of tennis, as it is a guaranteed three matches. I found that my net game had suffered some loss of confidence, as I just didn't feel good about my volleys. My serves were pretty good during the first set, including getting an ace based on deliberately placing it away from the receiver. Unfortunately, my arm got a…

Sadly, my singles league was canceled just after the first week for this season due to only four people signing up, and then another one dropping after the start.
Luckily, the league coordinator gave my information as a substitute for doubles, so this week, I played my first doubles match. My husband gave me a lot of practice volleying and hitting cross court which came in pretty handy last night. It's Round Robin doubles, and the scores for my teams were 6-0, 5-6, and 6-5. Not too…

The Bryan Brothers are the #1 team in tennis.
Nestor and Zimonjic are #2.
The Bryans regained #1 after dethroning Mr.Nestor from the #1 position.
Nestor-Zimonjic hold a 5-3 lead over the brothers in head to head match-ups.
The Bryan's and of course Nestor (with relatively new partner) are easily the most decorated and accomplished doubles pairs in mens tennis. They own all of the titles, including Olympic Gold between…

Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic defeated the American pairing of Bob and Mike Bryan 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 to win the men's doubles final at the Rogers Cup.
It was the first doubles title for Nestor at the Rogers Cup since 2000, when he was paired with Sebastien Lareau.
