MANACOR, Spain -- One week before his expected return to tennis, Rafael Nadal says his left knee still hurts.
The 26-year-old Spaniard is scheduled to play next week in Chile before heading to tournaments in Brazil and Mexico.
Speaking Wednesday on the island of Mallorca, Nadal says that although his knee is better, "sometimes it still hurts ... but I have to start sooner or later."
Nadal says playing at the three Latin American tournaments "will be very useful." He says he is "fine, enthusiastic," after not playing since losing to Lukas Rosol in the second round at Wimbledon.

I guess that knee is just not healing and he has to get back on the court. This is probably because it is a degenerative injury and will never be "normal" again - like tennis elbow I guess.
Permalink Reply by Tim Prapong on January 31, 2013 at 12:42am He's kinda cornered now to perform. His fans, his sponsors, the chance to get close to Roger's slam record, all depend on it.

Permalink Reply by Tim Prapong on February 1, 2013 at 12:14am Hmm, Mark. Did you put up this picture? It's his left knee that hurts, not his right. It's the back leg that he plants on for his forehand.
I did add the picture - I hope you don't mind. I'm going to post this on the 'opolis facebook page and that always works better when there is a picture in it. And Dr. Tim, this must be an older picture of his knees when his right knee was hurt. Don't sweat the details. :-)

That's a good question. How about this one: If Rafa is playing at a lower level, like 20 in the world, will he keep at it or hang it up?
Permalink Reply by Kyle McCain on February 1, 2013 at 6:11pm His heart is to large to be playing at that level, I couldn't watch his level go down like that, it would kill me.
I like what jim courier said. "he should never play another doubles match again, nor the davis cup." He said something like that. haha I agree and i hope Nadal's camp does that.
This sport wouldn't be the same, because these grand slams seem a little false or one sided, with semis.
Permalink Reply by Chin Be on February 2, 2013 at 2:13am Kinda seems unfair considering Rafa's age. Retiring so young and he should be physically peaking at this time but his wheels are already worn :(
I agree with you regarding the semi's. It's a straight shot to the final if you're on one side and the other top two on the other. hehe..
