John Isner the Dark Horse
Recognize these names, Frederico Gil, Marco Chiudinelli, Benjamin Mitchell? What about these players, Gilles Simon, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic?
These are just a few players John Isner has successfully defeated this 2012 season. The 6'9, 245lb pound Goliath has show that David's odds or not looking to great this year. WIth a record of 17-6, and four of those coming off of clay. Johns victory over Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and going five sets with Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros last year, one has to think that John is the leading Dark Horse going into the French open.

Correct a mundo, my comment was to point out that Issy is beating quality opponents on tough surface. I think his best major shot will be US Open or maybe Wimbly.

USO and Wimbledon may be his best chances, but personally I believe he has the ability to win all four majors. If I'm not mistaken there hasn't been an american do that in the history of american tennis.

Right now I think clay is where john has the most confidence. He may be in contingent to win all four majors, he hasn't won any yet, so it's hard to say.
Also, I think there was an American player with a middle name of kirk who won the Grand Slam, and a gold medal. Andrea, Rod, Roger, and Rafa I think are the only four players who have completed the Grand Slam since the start of the "Open era."
I still give credit to Fred Perry, Roy Emerson, and Don Budge, because they won the grand slam as well, just not in the Open era.

Monaco has been on a roll so far this year and Issy needs a much needed break last you few weeks wore him out.

This is why I don't think Isner will do well at the French. This tourney was all about best out of 3 sets. What is going to happen when it turns into best of 5. I just don't see it happening. That being said, congrats to Isner, he is now the top American player.

He should be fresh for the French and five setters. He was on the end of a five tourney run, and an over and back to Monaco for Davis Cup. Think it all caught up to him. Time to enjoy his accomplishment and recharge the batteries for the next stretch.

I think, Monaco is just playing well right now, he was like this last year playing in all the master series, and then got burnt out and lost in the first round to Verdasco if I can remember correctly. After that Verdasco lost to Ljubicici who wasn't doing as well as the year before.
So we will see what Monaco can do this year.

I just love this picture of John Isner's service motion. Check out the huge knee bend. This serve is coming just as fast as on a hard court. Even after it bounces it is not much slower. I agree that his best chance is Roland Garros.
