First time Planning for Mar 5  – Mar 16, 2014 |   Indian Wells, CA  tournament! Any suggestions htls, tkts, preparation, advice if you've already been?? How early to start planning, what's important? Is is a blast? Are early rounds better if you are taking the kids so they can see the pro's up close and personal practising?

I've never been and want to take my son next year!

The Esmeralda is a great hotel.  Lots of players stay there and the pool, food, and amenities are great.  It is a wonderful tournament.  I was down touring the venue where they are making 100 million dollars in improvements.  It is going to be as nice or nicer than the US Open Venue.  Court 2 is coming along and will be spectacular.  If you haven't been there before, you are in for a treat.

I've been for the last 7 or 8 years and I love it. It is fantastic. I prefer the early rounds and middle weekend and I think kids do too - more happening, more carnival atmosphere. More autographs and sightings; more matches!  I think the best advice I would give to myself would be to buy fewer (or no) Stadium 1 tickets.  I like the smaller stadiums (old 2 and 3,probably called 3 and 4 now) which you can get into with just a day pass.

You should also join the Going to Indian Wells group where there is a lot of good info. M

Well, this year is going to be tougher for us.  Our school district just decided to move the spring break for no apparent reason and now we don't overlap the tournament like we always have.  I hope to go for a long weekend at least...
