Tennisopolis : Tennis Social Network

Lets get this area of the forum going. It doesn't have to be tennis related I guess. But I'll throw one out there for you to chew on -

It is SERIOUSLY distracting for the service returner to return the missed first serve when it is clearly going long. Like, what? Am I your freaking ball boy? I'm trying to serve here. It kills the rhythm to stop between 1st and 2nd serves to clean up after your lazy opponent.

OK, glad I got that off my chest.
Can anyone please concur and let me know that this is a reasonable request. :-)

I sure do, don't I? But he's my cousin, so what can I do? I think the annoyance factor is multiplied because he's family! Ha ha!!

Sounds like you need to get a better doubles partner...

I've got two current pet peeves:

1. My tennis partner is constantly correcting my technique when he can barely hit well himself! In my mind I am always telling him to "GO COACH HIMSELF!!" Please free to replace the word "coach" with any other "happy word". Ha ha!!

And...

2. When I play doubles and my partner yells 'yours!' on shots that are obviously mine. That annoys the heck out of me!!
Ah...I know the feeling...
I hate when people beat you and then say they wish they had your game! Its like they're they looked worse winning than you did losing! I like looking good but I like winning more!
It's no big deal. Fugetaboutit.
Agreed!

Ok.. so this is a little different than the last, but nothing irritates me more than when I'm trying to play a serious match at a public court and parents give their 6 year old kids toys to play with on the court.. or little cars to ride around on a court.. They don't have any courtesy for people who are actually trying to play. I like kids, but that is just rude.
Players calling the ball out before it lands out...
Players who purposefully swing and miss at a "clearly" out ball...
I have a new one.. for me at least. How about the doubles partner that hits the ball as hard as he can. Doubles is about strategy and position and hitting the shot you can make confidently 80% of the time, NOT 5% of the time....
They say tennis is a very individual sport...well let the kids figure it out...if they can't that's what the officials are for...if it's not an official match, well there is a difference between "helping" and like you said, "interfering" ... and no, the line is not that thin! lol ...

I say you are right on! You should start a new thread in the Tennis Rants section of the forum so we can flush this topic out to the level it deserves. :-) Kids need to be able to handle it between themselves on the court.

My biggest pet peev is parents who just cannot leave their kid's alone to play their match, make their own calls & figure it out on their own. They just have to interfere. Either they are putting too much pressure on the kid or they are challenging calls & embarrassing them. Kid's have a certain etiquette to follow & code of ethics, so do parents. Wait til there is a changeover at least. This irritates the heck out of me.

What say you?
I played doubles today with a group of woman who took way too long switching sides. Are we here to freekin play or talk?
Really.
That's just one reason mixed doubles is better.
My pet peave is people who go out and play tennis without ANY formal instruction!!!!! Come on, spend a few dollars and learn how to play correctly.
