Ok, we cannot slight the women.  There have been basically three that have been doing well as of late.  Azarenka, Kvitova and as a dark horse Goerges.  As you scan the Red Clay panorama, who do you think will take the French Open crown.  There are no Williams sisters.  Kim Clisters looks like she is out.  Henin of course retired, Wozniaki apparently doesn't have the game for clay.  Schiavone, Stosur, Kuznetsova and Ivanovic are all struggling (these are recent past champs and or finalists).  Who do we turn to?  Seven grueling matches.  Is it Kvitova, the Czech lefty?  Is it Azarenka who finally seems to be playing up to her ability?  Or is it the dark horse Goerges - the Wozniaki killer?  Or is it someone else entirely?  I am kind of thinking it may be someone else entirely.  Maybe a Petkovic or some other player that catches fire just in time.  What are your thoughts?

What about Wozniaki?
What about her Mike?  She has done nothing on the clay courts this year.  She was beaten twice by Goerges, once by Petkovic, and then by Sharapova - who at best is a 4th rounder at the French this year.  She has no clay court game.  She has no power.  Her defensive game is best suited for the hard courts and grass.  She has nothing to force the issue with against anyone, which is why she is being destroyed by bigger powerful women.  Woz has no chance.  I like Angie's comments above, about who the real competitors are, even though she left out the German women.

I do like the Germans and I wouldn't be surprised if either Petkovic or Goerges went to the late rounds.  But, to pick either of them to win it, would be a long shot in my opinion.  Both have proven they can beat some top players, but can they do that week in and week out, and in a Slam?  Still, they belong in the discussion, and I could see them having a good tournament and reaching the finals.

As for Caroline, I think it's possible she could win it, but I agree with Mark's comments.  Clay doesn't suit her best.  Maybe she should miss a tournament once in a while and take a break, she plays every week!  If only I were that young again...

:)  That just goes to show you how little I know about women tennis.  :)
Come on Mike.  How can you not pay attention to women's tennis with players like the Germans.  Dude!  But, again, I agree with Angie.  She seems to be right on the thread of what is going on.  Clay is definitely not Caroline's bag.  On clay, you have to generate, and Caroline's game is all about transfer of the other person's power.  You cannot do that on clay.
I know, I know.  Man, I miss my tennis channel  I recently had to lower my cable bill and lost the TC.  BTW my favorite female tennis player is Ana Ivanovic!  She's so pretty.  I love her little fist clinch.
I got that.  She is beautiful and I love it too.  Too bad she isn't more on her game.  She has won it once, so the belief shouldn't be an issue.  I guess when that first ball is tossed into the air we will quickly see who the players are and who the pretenders are.
Update: Wozniaki struggles, Stosur destroys, Goerges victorious.  All headed to the third round.
Update:  Clisters out.  Sharapova struggles but wins, Petkovic wins.  Well, surprised that Clisters went out so meekly in the third set.  Major upset.

I know, it was painful to watch.  If I didn't know better, it was as if she threw the match.  I mean how do you lose as the #2 seed with match point up 6-3, 5-2?  I guess you start by hitting out by a couple feet on your shots.  Epic loss.

It was too bad.  This whole tournament has now completely opened up for any woman to win now.
Update: Wozniaki, Stosur and Goerges out.  What the heck?  Petkovic is pretty much the last of my darkhorses to win.  Kvitova is still in.  Zvonerava is still in.  Schiavone is still there too.  Who else can win this?
