Ok, we cannot slight the women.  There have been basically three that have been doing well as of late.  Azarenka, Kvitova and as a dark horse Goerges.  As you scan the Red Clay panorama, who do you think will take the French Open crown.  There are no Williams sisters.  Kim Clisters looks like she is out.  Henin of course retired, Wozniaki apparently doesn't have the game for clay.  Schiavone, Stosur, Kuznetsova and Ivanovic are all struggling (these are recent past champs and or finalists).  Who do we turn to?  Seven grueling matches.  Is it Kvitova, the Czech lefty?  Is it Azarenka who finally seems to be playing up to her ability?  Or is it the dark horse Goerges - the Wozniaki killer?  Or is it someone else entirely?  I am kind of thinking it may be someone else entirely.  Maybe a Petkovic or some other player that catches fire just in time.  What are your thoughts?

Update, so Kim hasn't totally ruled out French yet.  I am not holding out on that thought as she will not be match ready, but stranger things have happened.
If Kim is healthy enough to play I would pick her. I don't think post-retirement Kim would try to "gut one out" at this point in her 2nd life. If she enters it will be because she thinks that she can go all the way. If Kim can't go I think Georges can take this one. Roland Garros produces a bunch of unexpected champions.
Isn't that the truth.  Who would have thought Schiavone would have won last year?  Older player, no overarching success on the tour, then out of nowhere, BAM, new French Open champ.  Agree, could be someone from out of nowhere.
Well... my ladies picks are finito! I'm glad that there is no WTA pick 'em or I really would be hanging out the the ape-bots!
If anything, I think Goerges might be the dark horse in this.  She can surprise people, especially Woz.
Azarenka just pulled out a tough win, Woz won today, Stosur and Schiavone are rounding into form.  Maybe we will have an exciting Women's French Open after all.  Serena is out for sure.  Announced that today.  Venus has yet to say anything.  Goerges skipped Rome to prepare for the French.  Smart girl.
Woz just beat Jankovic.  Maybe she does have a better chance than thought.  I still think she is going to have to pull out a weapon of some sort though.  Na Li also won.  Is she becoming somewhat of a dark horse herself?
Sam Stosur is officially on the watch program now.  She just enacted some revenge against Schiavone.  Beat her in straight sets.
Latest update, Kim is now saying that depending on her workouts next week, she may indeed still play the French.  And, are we experiencing somewhat of a Sharapova rebirth?  She is into the Semis at Rome.  What is that all about?  Azarenka retired after taking the first set 6-4, but was down 0-3 in the second.  Does this put Azarenka's French in doubt?
The last time Azarenka retired from a match @ Indian Wells, she went in to win Miami. ;-). Maybe she can do the same? ;-)
Here is the latest....No Williams Sisters.  This marks a first since the sisters started playing.  Additionally, Kim has committed.  She says she is not 100%, but will give it a go.  For my money, that totally changes the dynamics of this tournament.  And finally, how about the showing from Ms Sharapova.  Where did that come from?  Which one of her will show up for the French though, that is the bigger deeper question.

Kvitova is coming into form nicely and has beaten many of the top players.  I'm really excited to see Kim electing to play the tournament.  What a great competitor!!  Sharapova has also shrieked her way to a great start this year, even if she has only one title.  I would love to see Caroline win a slam eventually, but not sure this will be hers.

It's anyone's guess.  I like Kvitova, Clijsters, Azarenka, Sharapova.  I think Azarenka would make a logical choice, but wouldn't it be cool if Clijsters won and set herself up for a grand slam?  And then have a showdown with Serena in the summer/fall?  Now that would be exciting!
