So, we have had a change of the guard.  Mardy Fish is now the #1 American player.  The question and discussion is, will he hold on to that spot, will he solidify his ranking and move into the top 10 or will he flutter and fall out?  Does Roddick have game enough to retake the #1 American position?  With only a handful of Americans in the top 50, What is our future outlook?  Harrison is a beast, but has a few years to go before he is probably ready to make that climb and be a prennial fighter for the top.  Who do we American's cheer for?

So seriously, no one has an opinion on this.  After seeing Roddick, Querry, Fish and then today Isner lose at the Madrid Masters tournament.  As I mentioned above, Harrison has a few years before he mounts any type of charge.  But what until then.  On the women's side, there is equally nothing.  What is happening to the U.S. player.....
I've gave up on cheering for Roddick.  he has let me down time and time again.  I still love him though.  Mardy Fish #1 now huh?!  Good for him!  I hope he can retain that position.  I agree with you, I think Ryan is the next American that we can look forward to cheering on in the next few years!  But the future of American tennis stars to cheer on is looking kind of bleak.
I love Roddick too, and like you, he has disappointed me time and time again.  Unfortunately, that means unless you turn Pro here quickly, I am left cheering for no Americans until Harrison is ready.  I mean your not too far away winning all those tournaments lately.  Lets step it up eh?  ; )
Maybe Harrison, or Jack Sock, dare i say Donald Young is only 21 I think. I think ARod has got to go his act has wore thin, constant whining and surly behavior is tough to watch. Someone will pop out of the woodwork. Remember we train many of these kids down in Fl from other countries so the USA does help to produce champions, just not American born.
Hal, you are right, I forgot about Jack Sock.  I don't know what to think about Donald Young anymore.  I almost wonder if he has pissed off enough people that they no longer want to help?  I think Ryan and Jack are the next two up and comers.  I realize Florida trains tons of kids from all over.  It is just that national pride thing in me, that wants to see Americans be successful too.
I think the next big thing will be someone the USTA boys DO NOT have their hands on.......under the radar
Is that possible.  Seems like once they determine that a player has skills and upside, they target them and basically force the issue.  How would one under the radar make it without the financial assistance, outside of leaving the country?
Sorry, I meant they will train outside the High Performance program, have you noticed what happens to a lot of the up and comers once they grab them.....ppppffft
Thats exactly why I wonder if it would be better for them to go to a Sanchez Academy in Spain rather than ppppffft here in the states.  For one thing I truly think learning on clay forces a kid to learn how to construct points.  Something that is not required on hard courts.  Hard courts, the harder you hit the better.  No real strategy.  Which is also why, Americans suffer on the dirt.
