This is when tennis was PRIME TIME tv!   I believe there were more than 20 american men in the top 100 players in the world. I remember having to wait at public tennis courts just to get a chance to play... things have really changed!

With returns like that, hell, yes! He owned the middle of the court.

dude, lendl thru in the towel a lot early in his career.  He got a lot tougher inthe years that followed!  I think Connors could have beaten many modern day players

I forgot that Connors won 6-0 at the end. What I remembered was that Connors could've won it in straights and had trouble closing out the last game.

Lendl was playing all those neutral, center of the court balls, Connors just redirected everything angled or down the alley. Lendl became much better after beating Mac in '84. 

What's your take on the '83 Open?
