It's that time again. This league season is a bit of a change for me, as I am now playing in the AM instead of the PM. Why? By mid July, at 6pm, it will be sunny and over 100° outside, and that is just a bit too hot for my blood. The evening league ended up canceling anyway, probably because a lot of people had the same temperature factor in mind that I did.

Before my first league, I had a little practice with another gal the night before. I broke my two main goals in tennis - not being bagel'd and not doing better in the second set than the first. Instead, my score was 6-7 (my first tiebreak) and 0-6.

I have to admit, time was a factor. We played late, and in the back of my mind, I knew I didn't want to be out there past 10pm trying to fight it out in the second set, considering how close the first one was plus the fact that a lot of games went to deuce. She was definitely a better player - it's not like I let her win. I just didn't put my all into the second set like I normally would. I did enjoy getting the practice - my moving toward the ball is getting better, I finally figured out how to do the "desperation" slice, and my serve was pretty consistent. I also got in my first overhead!

So onto the first match this season. It didn't happen. I got up super early, stretched, ate and went in pretty confident. I practiced my serve for about 10 minutes, and then went inside to find out my partner was a no show. So instead, I ended up playing one set with a gal in the 3.0 - 3.5 league whose partner also didn't show. That set didn't turn out too bad at 3-6. My opponent even said I looked like I was close to moving up, which is good to hear. I just have to win my league this season, and possibly next to do so. Having a 6-0, 6-0 in my first match due to forfeit will definitely help in the points department, although I am more looking forward to having an opponent and a full match next week.
