RICHARD GASQUET SUSPENDED FOR COCAINE, SAFIN BLAMES PARTY FOUL

The AP reported today that Richard Gasquet has been officially suspended from competition after testing positive for cocaine in Miami. He will be off the tour at least until the ITF holds an anti-doping tribunal on the matter, which could take up to 60 days to arrange. This means Richard Gasquet will definitely miss Roland Garros. He could face a two-year ban if found guilty.

Gilbert Ysern, director general of the French Federation had this to say:

“Richard is devastated by this announcement,” said Ysern, also tournament director of the French Open. “On a human level, we can support him. If he did nothing wrong, we hope he will know how to prove it, but we are not his lawyer.”

Hi guys! Yeah, it's sad. How is it good for tennis (and the tennis fans) to kick Gasquet out for two years?

Okay, let's assume he gets the ban (as he likely will - it's hard to disprove these tests) do you think he could come back from it?

Totally agree Richard - well said. This is like deja-vu, we went thru the same thoughts when Hingis was nabbed last year. Seems like it shouldn't be a tennis problem because there is no way that coke could improve your tennis game. :-)

yes been watching what has been going on, all Richard has had to say is he is waiting for the tribunial to show his innocence.
Its weird as I know he likes a party now and again and could get spiked..... and it would be unusual for any player knowing they are starting a tournament and think that they can have a snort, knowing it stays in your blood stream for 3 days......if its true tho, dont you think a slap on the wrist, behind closed doors without all the publicity would be best.......this is not exactly a performance enhancing drug its a recreational drug and does it deserve a 2 year ban....if it was done behind closed doors as I say and discussed to see if it wasn't a problem with a continuing drug test for 6 months then we wouldnt have this hoo-ha.
I feel sorry for him..... anyone of us can get a bit pissed and do stupid things, its human.
