Andrea Petkovic (37-GER) defeated Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor (71-ESP) yesterday at the Sony Open 6-3, 6-4. I don't know that Petkovic was ever in jeopardy during this match, but hopefully she knows that and will progress through the tournament and move up in the rankings. She's not unfamiliar with the Top 100 or Top 40 and she was in the Top 10 a few years ago. Unfortunately, she's also not unfamiliar with injury.
Visually, she appears to be one of the most fit women in the Top 100 and that's not simply by virtue of being lean. She has muscular definition and there is nothing weak or awkward in her movement or her strokes. May she stay free of any future injuries.
Regardless, she must love the game (prize money may have some effect, nah) because she hasn't left the game and she seems to get back at it as soon as her injury recovery allows.
Of course, this may be even more evident by the dance she does after her wins.
I imagine not every moment on the court for her is total bliss, but either way, this girl is gonna have fun. Gotta love that.
Play the Game!
