Since most ground strokes are made close to the baseline, the ball will have to travel nearly the full length of the court to get the depth you should have on your shot. That’s not hard to do…provided you hit the ball high enough over the net. But a net-skimmer will have to be hit exceptionally hard to go deep into your opponent’s court. You should hit the ball so that you lift it several feet over the net. You can do that more easily if you bring your racquet forward on a gently rising plane to meet the ball, and if you swing from low to high.
