World number one Dinara Safina manages to win again 'somehow' defeating the charismatic Kristina Barrois in three sets as she rallied from behind to win after over 2 hours and 12 minutes of intense battle. Safina won 6-7 6-2 6-3.
The match reminded of Safina's first round match against Rogowska where she had lost the first set too, but rallied to win.

Top seed and five time defending champion Roger Federer reached the third round of the 2009 US Open with a straight set, yet hard-fought win over German Simon Greul.
"I just had to make him play more shots, be more tough," told Federer. "I had to raise my level today to win because that's what was required to get through."
