'Topspin' serves are actually a mix of topspin and side spin. Use an eastern backhand grip, keep your toss above your head, keep your elbow up, pronate, and keep your head after contact. If you do all this, you will gain the 'fee'l for a topspin serve. Consistency on your first serve will come with the ability to focus on the task in front of you each and every time.
