Very interesting takeback. No loop swing but more straightback, kinda like the Edberg windup, but lower. Yes, you do swing that left leg around, but that is typical of the Edberg backhand, putting all his weight into the ball. Great followthrough. Just bend the front leg more and start the takeback higher, just like Edberg.

Yes, this style backhand is different from the Fed backhand where he doesn't generally swing the left leg around but lifts it, with all the weight in the bent right quad. Edberg, Kuerten and Gasquet do get more weight behind their backhands than Federer because they do swing the left leg around depending on the occasion, throwing weight past the right hip, getting a more across and wide followthrough.

I met Boris Becker's backhand coach, Lee Shields, and he demonstrated this for me and others.

I see that you are a 4.5 player also - so this a peer-to-peer comment.  Take it as you will, Leighton.  :-)

It might just be this one time, but in this sequence, the last frame says a lot.  You are falling back away from the net or to your right hand side, and your left foot is swinging around.  Watch the 3rd and 4th backhand in this video of Fed and see if you can tell what I am talking about: http://www.youtube.com/user/FYB2007#p/search/0/MCQ50D2fIKI  I should post some videos too, so people can give me tips.

Hi Mark.  These shots are actually screenshots from the video I was recording of this match.  Just pause, copy, crop and paste.  Do you have a tip for me?  Or do you want a tip?  I'll take any suggestions to improve me game.  But a good one-handed backhand tip from me would be DON'T BE LATE.  Get going on preparation and hit it out away from (get extension) and follow through more up instead of around.

Great idea!   A little blury but I can still see your stroke there.  Do you want a tip?
