Venus Williams Officially #2 Ranked Player In The World!!
It gives me one of the greatest feelings in a long time to know that Venus Williams will official be ranked #2 in the world come next week when the new rankings are released. Venus defeated Italy tennis player Francesca Schiavone, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the third round. Hopefully we will see a repeat of the 2002 French Open Final between her and Serena. This is really has made my day because i know deep inside Venus has worked very hard to get back to the top and im sure she wants that #1 spot back. Can you imagine her about to turn 30 and #1 in the world. WOW! Congratulations to our girl Venus Williams!!

Jae, I am completely blown away by this news.
If you listened to the tennis commentators on television, you would think that Venus is languishing away and should retire.
This is laughable.
Here is something else to laugh about: Venus and Serena are ranked #3 among doubles players in the world having played only 6 tournaments. Liezel Huber is ranked #1 and Cara Black is ranked #2, but had to play 21 and 22 tournaments, respectively, to earn their rankings. -

Right and get this! If they win this week in Madrid and the French Open they will be #1 in doubles!! Can you say total domination! It is so funny how they talk down about the sisters but through it all they are proving them wrong doing it their way.

I just read a Tweet posted by Greg Couch who said, "Shocking how rare Venus and Serena have had top 2 spots. V has been 1 just 11 weeks. Graf, 377 weeks."
My retort: "Steffi is great but the level of competition she had to face was no where near her equal. She should have been #1 for 377 wks."
Honestly, I cannot think of anyone that Steffi had to face that could ever expect to beat her while she was in her prime. -

Right and when venus came, she had hingis, davenport, seles all to compete with. It still amazes me how long Davenport was #1 for but didnt come through as well in the Grand Slams.

I would love to see V get to number 1 again!
But right now she is caught up in a tough battle with Rezai in the Madrid final.
She is down a break in the first set. Come on Venus! -

Yeah Mark, she is making too many unforced errors along with her allowing rezai to dictate the points. 2nd set she will have to be more aggressive but with more control on her shots. Her first serve is also needs to start clicking. Hopefully she can pull it through

Venus not winning at Madrid yesterday was a real disappointment; however, as another tennis aficionado -- who had no idea that Venus was playing in this particular tournament -- pointed out to me yesterday, "How the hell was Venus able to come so far on clay?" At that point I realized, yeah, clay was never a surface that either sister performed well on but Venus made it all the way to the final.
Further, this was really not meant to be much more than a warm-up for the French yet she was a finalist.
We can only hope that Venus uses the result in Madrid as momentum toward winning the French now that she knows that it's not the clay that was the cause of past misfortunes. In other words, SHE controls the outcome, not the surface.
Come on, Vee. I can see the #1 ranking light at the end of the tunnel. -
