Tennisopolis : Tennis Social Network

Hi all.
I don't know my rating, but I'd like to find a few people in the Decatur area or close by that might want to play a bit of casual tennis once or twice a week. I have two kids and a wife to juggle so my availability is mainly evenings and weekends, but there are a few weekday mornings I could also be available.

I used to play casually with a couple of pals when i was 15, but haven't hardly looked at a racquet since (i'm 39 now). My goal is to simply get some regular exercise that's fun.

I'm currently attending a 6 week beginner clinic at Glenlake courts in Decatur, and am just grasping at straws here regarding how to find some people to play with.

All the ALTA and USTA stuff seems very geared towards leagues and competition, which might be fun, but I need to play a bit before I even consider that. If you have any tips or know of any casual clubs or teams in the Decatur area, I'd love to hear your advice.

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm in the middle of a class for beginners but I don't have anyone to practice with - my husband hates tennis. Like you, I'm interested in getting some exercise in a fun way. I'm currently on summer vacation (I'm a teacher). So, my schedule is pretty open for the next several weeks. I live in Lilburn, but I'm willing to travel to your neck of the woods. Please let me know if you are interested in playing a friendly game of tennis.

Sure I'd love to get together for some practice, but I have a sexist question for you - can you keep the ball in play?

I only ask because of the composition of the beginner's class I'm in - about ten women (I'm the only guy!) ranging in age from about 30 to 45, and most of them can hardly get the ball over the net even when I lob every single shot right to them. So playing them is basically zero practice for me - well lots of practice gently lobing balls to people, but it means I can never really even hit the ball because they'd never be able to return a "normally" hit forehand even if it went right to them.

I'm not trying to be a chauvinist, and I'm certain there are thousands of women in Atlanta that could effortlessly mop the court with me, I'm just trying to find a skill-matched player who can hit a normally paced ball so we both get something out of the experience.

If you're still up for it, I'd love to play.
I'm pretty sure I can keep the ball in play. At the very least I can get the ball over the net and I don't mind running all over the court to hit the ball back to you!!! How about we get together for an hour or so on the court and see if we are compatible players. The worst that can happen is that we each decide to find someone else. I won't be offended if it doesn't work out because I need to find someone at my skill level too. And it's an hour of exercise we wouldn't have gotten otherwise! Feel free to email me at [edit by Mod] so we can exchange information and set up a time and place. I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a great day!
