Come Monday, the rankings will officially change.
According to the points calculating guys, "underground" and "Oddjack" of TW forum,
"Oddjack" says:
Yes, He will have to win or mak[e] final with Rodge not in final.
"underground" says:
- Nadal has to win Rome to regain No.2
- If Federer loses before final, Nadal needs to get to the final.
100% sure about the calculation.
This is interesting because it will affect Nadal's seeding in the French Open as well!

So the gap is indeed 325 pts. So Federer doesn't have many points to defend at Rome, where as Nadal has to defend the title. So if Fed gets to the semis, it may be enough to keep Rafa #3.
Rafa isn't defending the title. He lost in the finals to Nole. So if Rafa wins, he picks up 400 points. But yes, Fed would have to lose I think at least a round earlier for Rafa to take back #2. I don't remember how far Fed got last year.
Ah, yes! You're absolutely right. How did I forget? Federer lost in the third round last year to Gasquet. Well, let's see it all pans out. Pretty crucial stuff.
if fed keeps #2 then rafa has to meet novak in semi right?
Yeah, like old times.
Except, Fed may not play Rome, and if not, then Rafa would get back #2 with a victory. Then it would be Djoko and Fed in Semi's at RG.
A mistake by Fed not to play, unless he has some injury as he is hinting.
What injury? What happened? I can see him slated to play the second match on centercourt tomorrow.
Fed said he was taking painkillers during Madrid, but didn't specify his injury. I am guessing it is his lower back again.
He's really looking good against Berlocq. I don't see anything obvious.
I think Fed has been quiet about his back injuries more often than not. But it is hard to tell.
