When I got home from my tournament in Tahoe last weekend my check from Johnson Ranch was waiting for me. We won 3 rounds before losing the final.
First round we beat a dangerous teaching pro from Gold River Racquet Club and a guy from our 5.0 team.
In the second round we played some incoming college kids. They told me where they were going but I forgot. I think it was back east. They were playing the tournament because through juniors they knew they were both going there.
In the semi's we won a close one against a current player for Dartmouth and a current player for UCSD. These guys were yelling and screaming the whole time to get themselves back into the match. Even after winning the first set easily I remember thinking they were doing a lot of yelling for a team that just dropped a set 6-1 or something. When the match got close... 2-3, 3-4ish in the second set they were sort of coming back to earth. The kid from Dartmouth through in a couple of double faults down the stretch. I hit a clean down the line winner for a big break and the kid yells, "that was so lucky." Shinny tells him, "No, we were lucky you double faulted twice that game." ... I love the shit talk =0
In the Finals we got tuned up by Huang and his doubles partner from Yale. Huang was legit, and was even seated 5th in the $25,000 tournament I just got back from. Playing the team from Yale felt like we were playing against a well-oiled machine. They had little Yale play's they ran and everything. Once they went down in the I formation and I always smack is straight down the middle because coming up from the I formation usually requires picking a side... but nnnooo he camped in the middle and just smacked it. Just felt like we kept falling into their traps. We went up an early break 2-1 in the second but my doubles partner through in a 5 double fault game... (he never does this but was super tired from winning the mixed doubles final earlier that day... 6th match in 2 days etc etc) Like I said he won mixed so he had a pretty good pay day =) we only got $150 to split for reaching the finals but he got $300 to split for winning the mixed too.

it is not a lot of money. I have definitely won more before. But being paid to compete makes me feel like a rockstar =P
Get another RDiS 93 then! Or whatever rockstars spend their money on. hehe
