Dermatologist invites Djokovic to be rid of yeast splotches! lol

While Novak Djokovic may be feeling pleased as punch about his US Open win against Rafael Nadal, he may need to stop by a dermatology clinic before his next Grand Slam. Djokovic is seen above sporting white spots on his neck alongside his menacing grimace. Our impression is that this is due to tinea versicolour, a condition that occurs when there is an overgrowth of yeast on the skin. While this particular yeast is normally found on skin, certain conditions cause it to flourish including heat and humidity. When Roger Federer brought the heat in the semis, it did little to help his situation.

Small spots begin to develop that are lighter than the surrounding skin. When exposed to sun, the yeast acts like a sunscreen; as the surrounding skin becomes darker, the areas affected by the yeast are protected, causing them to look lighter and more noticeable. During the winter months, the affected areas look red and scaly.

This condition is treated using anti-yeast medicines, though the uneven pigment may remain for months. Additionally, the condition may return if the conditions that allow for the yeast to thrive present themselves again.

Dr. Singh would like to extend an open invitation to Djokovic to come down to the AvantDerm facilities for treatment, followed, of course, by a game of tennis!
