Tennisopolis : Tennis Social Network

Hello out there! Any tennis tourney followers there? Do you want to comment or pick a winner for FIFTH most important tournament of the year? (after the Grand Slams). On 11-21... I posted a discussion about Barclay's ATP Mens World Tour Final and have only received 1 reply---from the Tennisopolis Mayor. I picked underdog Robin Soderling as my favorite. It appears I was 'right on' since Soderling has 2 wins (in Round Robin format) and Rafa Nadal was eliminated by Davydenko today (Wed. 11-25). Do any of you tennis players have predictions about the winner? Who will play in finals? The tournament is being broadcast on the Tennis Channel everyday through Saturday and I think the Final is on ESPN this coming weekend. Thanks for your reply...Mikee.

Hi Mikee! If you are watching live, click on the Live Chat tab at the top - we can chat along with the matches in there. I want to start promoting this chat during matches concept here on Tennisopolis.

I must say that your Sod pick is looking good. I'm starting to feel like Fed is the man this year. Everyone else is looking shaky.
Hello Mr. Mayor Mark: I just got home from turkey dinner at my sister's house and saw your message. I did watch Delpo beat Roger (Joe Cool--I have nicknames for all the players unless they already have one). I'm not surprised because I did watch Delpo throughout U.S. Open. I believe the main reason that Delpo (and Robin Soderling, AKA BigBird) are doing so well is their relatively flat groundstrokes. I really like both big mens' flat attacking forehands. In particular, Delpo likes to get into the court and drive his FH. I love his 'off'' FH. I am a believer in Eastern grips and hitting groundies flatter than the Western grippers. I also think The Ironman (Davydenko) beat Nadal because he used flatter shots (and played closer to the baseline), pushing Nadal further off the court than usual. Those radical Western--topspinners (like Nadal) love to play deep behind baseline (clay courters?) and end up returning the ball short with all that spin. I would appreciate your analysis and comments. Also... can Delpo win it all? Who would win tween Delpo and Soderling? Thanks for contacting me! Mikee.
Hey MIKEE, I just found this - sorry for the delay.
well i guess we both know now that the Ironman came through big!
I like what you were saying about Sod and Delpo's big flat forehands - they are devastating when they are "on", but it gets ugly if something is "off". It is a blast to watch these 2 guys. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only fan of Soderling - he is not like much on the tour.

My pick of Fed was wrong obciously.

Nadal's game is off right now, at least on hard courts. I think the AO will be very exciting and telling for the future.
well close however i dont believe ANYONE except the russian knew he was going to beat almost everyone to win the tournament

I can't wait to see if he can carry this momentum into the Aussie Open.

Mayor Mark-Yes, we can. If we invite people to share their opinions early enough. How to make it somewhat involving? Perhaps we could list the predicted Top 10 (or 12) favorites for the Australian Men & Women and ask everyone to cast their Votes for the predicted winners from those two early lists. This would, in essence, be an early (unofficial) Top Ten (or Top 12) Seeding by Tennisopolis. OR: invite members to predict who will play in the Finals (from the 10 or 12 that Tennisopolis listed)...Does your page....software have the option for members to vote? And the Tennisopolis web page could also keep a running tally of votes up to the beginning of the competition--when voting would stop. Is there a simple prize (for example, a dozen tennis balls or Tennisopolis.com ballcaps or tennis visors?) for ALL members who pick correctly? I notice that there are thousands of Tennisopolis members..but only a small cadre of actual participants. Best...Mikee.

Good post! Have you participated in our bracket pick-em contests that we run for the Majors? We will definitely do that again and it is a blast. We could also start a thread in the forum where we each post our predicted top ten for the end of 2010.
Re: participation. Most players are here to find tennis partners and we are currently interested in getting the forum and blogs to be more active. I look forward to you helping light a fire under the forums.

Mr. Mayor: No, I have not participated in your bracket pick-em contests. I am a new member. I will check that out. Thanks. Mikee

Cool. You'll see us promoting it before the AO, big time. It is a lot of fun and all the points are tracked in great detail. We've had as many as 150 participants in Tennisopolis.
