As you all know, I have recieved great feedback from the Bollettieri Academy, they have always been adressing my questions and taken their busy time to help me out, especially Nick Bollettieri who took his time to do a 20 minute long interview for my blog. I had some more questions about the academy and how it all works so I asked Dan Tierney @ the IMG Bollettieri Tennis Academy.

Take a look, it is very interesting reading for anyone who is thinking about getting better at tennis:

Q: Why should people visit the Bollettieri Academy?
People should visit the IMG Bollettieri Tennis Academy because it has proven itself as the world’s premier destination for tennis improvement. Led by Nick Bollettieri, one of the most influential and successful tennis coaches in history, the Academy can help improve any player’s match skills. In the last year alone, our junior students have won NCAA men’s (Devin Britton) and women’s singles (Mallory Cecil) titles, Junior Australian Open boys title (Yuki Bhambri), and Junior U.S. Open boys’ (Bernard Tomic) and girls’ (Heather Watson) titles.

The Academy, though, isn’t only for the best of the best. We have sent countless students to college on scholarship and simply helped improve thousands and thousands of tennis players of all ages and ability levels over the years.
Athletes also have access to the IMG Performance Institute, which features physical conditioning, mental conditioning, communication training, nutrition classes, vision training, classes for college preparation and other disciplines to ensure athletic and personal development.

The Academy has to be seen in person to fully appreciate it. The energy on the 350-acre campus truly inspires every athlete to give everything they’ve got when practicing and competing. With athletes from all around the world in one place, it’s a unique environment that’s unmatched anywhere else.

With close access to beaches, amusement parks, cultural amenities, shopping and dining – not to mention the on-campus Wellness Spa for hairstyling, massages, manicures and pedicures – the Academy is the perfect destination for anyone.

Q: Can anyone visit the academy in any time during the year? Yes, the Academy has programs literally every week of the year. From weekend programs to weekly to multi-week and summer camps, we have something for everyone. With indoor courts available and Florida’s sunny and warm climate, the Academy offers optimal training conditions.

Q: Do you have students that actually go to school at the academy and play tennis at the same time?
Most definitely. Our full-time student-athletes train for half of the day and spend the other half taking classes at our on-campus Pendleton School at IMG Academies. Pendleton’s approximate 100 graduates in 2008 earned more than $1 million in scholarship money for their freshman year alone. Our post-grad students take classes at an on-side University of Miami branch campus. Our short-time students also have the opportunity to take classes while participating in tennis camps through tennis + high school classes, tennis + college classes or tennis + English as a Second Language classes.

Q: How many courts do you have?
We have 53 (lighted) courts, that represent a mix of clay, hard and indoor surfaces.

Q: What is the number of people who are permanently staying at the academy right now?
We have approximately 800 full-time students in all of our sports (tennis, golf, baseball, basketball and soccer), of which about 200 are tennis students. Annually, we have approximately 11,000 junior, adult, collegiate and professional athletes come through the Academy through short-time and full-time programs.

Q: Is the academy available for people who are new to the game or do you have to be at a certain level to gain access?
Our programs are fully customizable, and our coaches tailor training plans specifically for each athlete. We have programs for children (3-8) that teach basic motor skills and introduce tennis, youth players, elite players and adults. Through our video analysis and strategy sessions in “Nick’s War Room,” we can help any player improve their game.
