Being a team tennis coach is a different experience than coaching a group lesson, or private lesson. There is a whole season in which to plan and pace for a group of individuals. There is a sense of unity that needs to be addressed in a sport where the "1" or "2" (be it in doubles) retain the focus.
That being said. I love coaching. The team at my high school has worked so hard and found a unique type of unity that has impressed me, and encouraged me to investigate it further. My instructing skills have been adapted and honed to quickly convey information and obtain results. I have been able to create new drills and exercises that are interesting and pertinent.
I have also had opportunities to improve my interpersonal skills, remembering that tennis exists to make a person better and life better. I see this minute by minute, that skills and disciplines can be transferred to life. Being this positive force in young kid's lives motivates and encourages me to continue these pursuits as well as to continue growing and improving as a player and instructor.
Thank you to my Wood team! You are all awesome! I clearly think about all of you way too much!
