- In early adulthood I learned how to play tennis at a small pastoral park in Turlock, CA, with my younger brother. I had always been a fan of tennis and watched it closely as a young kid, but never really got into it on a visceral level until I started reading about (i.e.,, essays by the late David Foster Wallace) and watching Roger Federer on tv. Then I wanted to make things happen on the court. I learned the basics of the game within a year and by the second or third, adapted my game to a level of consistency with regard to baseline hitting and getting my first serves in about 80% of the time. Having learned to play with my younger brother, I haven't had many chances to hit with someone who is well-rounded. I am a quick learner and easy-going as far as personality is concerned. To give you a sniff of the kind of humor, say, that I tend to take to, here is a list of comedians whose tastes and attitudes towards the universe and the world accord with my own: louis ck. dave chappelle, eugene mirman, tig notaro, george carlin.
